Holly's early childhood best friend Adam (you may remember him from a post a few years ago sitting with Holly at a heart transplant reunion)passed away this past Wednesday. He was in his freshman year in college in San Fransisco http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

He was born a week before Holly and was transplanted a week after Holly. They were pretty much inseperable as young kids...as they had to go to clinic 3 times a week during the early years after transplantation.

If you are religious, please pray for Adam and his family(and even for Holly...as this has hit her (and Lynn and I) pretty hard).

The funeral is going to be sometime after Christmas.

Please allow me to share a few photos with you.

Adam's first birthday party (Adam was at Holly's first birthday party...and is mentioned in the article I posted a while back)

Another birthday...I'd guess 3 years old?

Bruce, very sorry to hear about Adam. Sounds like he was close to your family and a big part of Holly's support network...absolutely devastating

Heartfelt prayers sent. Make sure Holly knows that she has a national community of friends and supporters here on this website.

Post or PM me their address...I would like to make a donation http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

When times are hard you turn to your friends and family. It's nice to know you thought of us. Sad news at any point in our lives, but especially so at this time of year.

We'll be praying for Adam, his family and the Blythes as well.

Very sad to hear of this Bruce. You had spoke of Adam many times and he sounded like not only a great kid but also someone very special to Holly. I cannot imagine how hard this has not only hurt her but scared her in more ways then one. Our prayers go out to not only Adam's family but also to your family and especially Holly. Please let her know we are all there for her.

Is there any way you could give us a way to contact Adam's family through the mail. I think it would be nice for them to know how much Adam and Holly have impacted many peoples lives over the years and let them know the the sYc family is there for them especially over the Holidays. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thanks everyone for the support. It helps a lot. We have some pictures scanned...and I sent a few to Rick and Annie...as they brought back some really great (and yet at the same time some painful) memories...

Adam was such a part of our life from day one after transplant. He was the "benchmark" that we looked to for how Holly would progress...as he didn't have the delays that Holly experienced http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It also helped that he had an awesome mom. We are going to try and be there in any way for his mom and family...but it's really hard http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

According to the coroners report...he just had a bad heart rhythm...which caused him to go into V-Fib...they tried cardioversion to no avail.

God has other plans for Adam http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I will give Holly all the support that she wants. I think that she's still in shock (as I think that Lynn and I are as well...

We may visit Adam's mom this Wednesday...I think it would do all of us some good.

Bruce,

Thanks for posting Adam's Obituary...I had tears in my eyes even though I did not know him. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I was not aware that he had TWO heart transplants and a kidney transplant.

That's awesome that he gave the gift of life to others in need by donating his tissues and organs. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to you, your family and Adam's family at this difficult time.

Thanks for the link, i had tears in my eyes as well, hard to believe that could happen to someone only a month younger than me, it hits home...... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif It is people like Adam and Holly that make me want to donate blood and become an organ donor.

Praying for everyone,

Thanks Rita, Reid, Joe and everyone else. We went to the funeral on Wednesday. It was REALLY hard...and at the same time comforting for Holly...as she was finally able to 'let go' with her emotions.

Adam was a super kid... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Hi Bruce - its Vera, Sam's "better half"! Thank you for sharing this - the reality of transplant is something we just have to learn to live with everyday, and cherish everyday with our "kids" - Both Joey and Holly have been given the most precious gift on earth, and I know like us, you never take it for granted. Please share our condolences with Adams family- I am sure it was very difficult for all of them. Vera

Vera...you are so right. Give Joey a hug for all of us, please? I will let Gloria know...

If you are on Facebook...I can suggest that Gloria add you to the Adam St. Martin memorial page. You should get to know Gloria...she is an awesome lady! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Bruce,

Hope his family is doing well and I have no doubt you will think of him every year at this time.

I try to see the "positive" in things (as difficult as that is sometimes!), so I can't help but think you would not have all those wonderful memories of Adam had it not been for the kindess and generosity of his organ donors. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/worship.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/worship.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/worship.gif
