Buford and I go back a ways, and we’ve had the opportunity to get well acquainted but as pointed out in the Lounge http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/434532/an/0/page/0#Post434532 we need to part company so that I can devote time and dollars to my new blog/e-zine/e-book project. Buford will be sold as a rolling chassis (less engine, trans and hood). Buford’s a super low mileage (18,750) 86 T-Type Regal with a pretty healthy laundry list of high quality modifications (most of which, you can’t see). Buford will accept a small or big block Chevy and yes, a Buick V6 (all with a Turbo 400). If you haven’t followed bits of the build (in the above link), check it out. Buford is built to accept big (Big) power, but at the same time, be relatively streetable. Basically, I used the best of the best putting the roller together. I have $18,000 USD in the basic Buick and sold approximately $3,000 worth of hardware out of it for a net of $15,000 (+ or -). I’ve kept records on what the parts and basic outside services (fabrication, machining, plating, powder coating, etc.). Those pieces total an additional $24,588.27 USD (for a grand total of somewhere near $40,000). That figure doesn’t take into account freight, taxes, shop supplies, hardware, any of my own (countless) hours etc., it’s just the basic cost of parts (all of which are brand spanking new). Buford needs to find a new (good!) home, so I’ll use the old cliché: My loss is your gain. I’m asking $27,500 OBO for the roller. If you’re interested, or know someone who is interested, e-mail me or PM me or phone me (on the wet west coast) and I’ll direct you to a link to over 50 photos. I can also share the parts cost breakdown with interested folks. By the way, Buford is currently registered in BC Canada, but is originally a US citizen.

Thanks in advance folks!

Good morning Wayne, When I saw your name and "BUFORD" as you call it for sale I was compelled to read. I read every word of the original thread with great enthusiasm and interest. I am the one that ended up with your 1969 Tuxedo Black Orange Hounds Tooth interior car. My name is Richard English and thanks to Mark for remembering me! LOL after many conversations about cars, books and specifically you Wayne. Mark was instrumental in helping me to find a copy of the book you wrote and had published about my car. I would dearly love to have the Buick and complete the car as I am sure you would have! Time and money are both at a premium right now with four children, two of which play representative hockey. My wife and I are usually at separate ends of the spectrum and I too have to work to provide for them. In any event, I admire the work you have done on not only this project but everything you have been associated with. It is both an honour and a pleasure owning a car which was formerly owned by you. Please take care and keep up the good work.

Hi Richard. Glad to hear the Z/28 is in good hands. It was (and probably still is) a very nice car. Truthfully, it’s one of those regret cars (regret having to sell). I miss it. You, and probably a few others here would be surprised to find out that the old Chevy Street Machine book you have in your hands and the original copy are quite different. That book was heavily edited by a non-hot rodder. I don’t have the foggiest idea who the guy is on the cover (it sure isn’t me <g>). The original cover image had a certain black Camaro nose sticking out of a garage with toolboxes, tools and parts on either end. And a good looking (albeit conservatively dressed) gal under the hood. At the time, the consensus was you had to have a red car on the cover of a book or magazine for it to sell, so the cover image was rejected along with a whole bunch of what I thought was appropriate stuff inside. Bottom line was, I hardly recognized the book when I saw the finished product. In the end, I think I made roughly $0.49 on the thing <g>.

The good news though is, that book and the entire process behind it haunted me and drove me nuts for years after (that's good news?). Although it’s long been out of print I still believe there are sufficient folks out there who are interested in the technology. That’s what is driving me to create an online e-magazine/e-book sort of deal. So basically, I’m going to repeat much of the content format, but with new words and new pix. And with a style that’s oh-so-so similar to the gun slinging, speak the truth old timers like myself used at the late great Super Stock & Drag Illustrated. The reality is, the late Steve Collison (Editor of SS&DI) really knew how to get it done.

What I really need is a guy like you to buy Buford the Buick (there’s a story regarding the name too..I don’t name cars….but…) -- someone who appreciates the time and effort that went into it. Bottom line here is, Buford would absolutely rock with a stone stock crate motor and an inexpensive manual valve body TH400. If you or anyone else knows of an interested buyer, pass it on!

Have a good one…

Hey Andy, thanks for the advice. To be honest, I frequent three Buick boards and a couple of other G-Body boards (or at least I went to them quite a bit in the past). Even though those are targeted markets, I don’t think I’ll post the car for sale on any of them. At this station in my life, I probably don’t have thick enough skin to deal with, uhm, “juvenile” banter (trying to be polite here <g>). From my perspective, Yenko.net has a much more mature (and I’d hazard to say more “cerebral”) audience. And while it sounds a bit like I’m trying to ingratiate myself to the folks who run this board, it is well moderated. That makes a big difference to someone like me, and that’s the reason I make posts here and for the most part, nowhere else.

Take care…

No kidding man...I pretty much run gun shy from most bulletin boards. For a long time it seemed to me that I had some sort of bounty on my head simply 'cause I work in the magazine biz. Yikes. Glad to be here.

Hi Guys (and Girls)! I promised a photo of the cluster when it was done. I think it turned out pretty nice. Here it is:

Additionally, a heads up:

I'm placing the car on E-Bay this coming Thursday (14 January 10). The reserve will be set at $24,999.00 (unless its sold by then). Once I have the actual auction link, I'll post it here.

Whew. This thing has been marked "Sold" at least twice and the deals have fallen apart for one thing or another (usually it seems to involve finding the $$$ <g>). So I've decided to have a spring sale. With everything I have, the price is $22,500 Canadian (US isn't much better today...ouch). And I'll either pay the freight to Windsor, Ontario (across the border from Detroit), using Mackie Transport - enclosed, or if you're out west like me, I'll provide an extra $2,000 credit toward the purchase.

Thanks guys.
