I have a friend of mine who is New to Car's. He just got a 1980 Z28 that is a stickshift, He asked me if His car is considered a muscle car ? Now i have a 1979 transam that's also a stickshift, And i told him that these are the cars that are Gonna shoot up in VALUE!! Especially the Stickshift ones, But im not to sure if these second gen f-body's are considered "MUSCLECARS"?? It just seems like the 1st gen's get a lot of attention and the price's for these car's just Exploded!!! I would like to know are these late model 2nd gen F-body's MUSCLECAR's????

they are for their time, and as you correctly stated, stick shifts will be more desirable
I believe the PC opinion on muscle-cars would start out with the requirement of the car being built between 1964 and 1972. So no, I don't consider either of those cars a muscle car but they do often mix into that genere with little objection.

It is so subjective on what people think is a muscle car anymore but that does not mean you should not enjoy the cars you have. One of my neighbors is driving a perfect 78 Trans Am and it always catches my eye when it goes by.

I have a lot of FUN driving my '79 TA . I had to take out the smog bog engine, To have the power i needed http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif but it is all there , No rust , Or T-tops!!! My buddy who has the Z28- took offense to this post , He doesnt GET IT, About his car NOT considered a Muscle CAR. Also he just Bought the Z28-and this is his 1st Stick car, He DIDNT run the numbers on the car , But Asked me to. Well it turns out it is a CLONE!!!!! The previous owner took a Regular camaro and MADE it in to a Z28- The car was born with a 305 with a stick, Non posi. Its now a fully loaded Z28 with a 350 & a BW-T5-5 speed & posi . Now I Tried to EXPLAIN to My Friend, CLONES are not worth ANYTHING!!! But just enjoy the car AND have FUN with it!!!

I have been driving Stick's my whole life! He did take my Advise and has gotten better . Now he wants more power , I suggested a 125 shot of n.o.s http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif But he wants to build up a 350 . Naturally i said go BIG ! Musclecar era stopped in 72? When the 73-74 SD-455 cars could hold their own against the elite of the 69-70 era? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Depending on the year of 2nd Gen Firebird, some go for pretty big numbers. The 70 Trans Am's trade in the $30K-$40K range, double or triple that if it's a RAIV car. The 71-72 Trans Am's also get somewhere in the $50K range, more if it's a 4-speed. The 73-74 SD-455 cars bring $100K+ of a fully restored version. Not much call for the 75-78 Trans Am's, but the 79's still draw $15K to $35K, depending on whether it's a 403 Olds (low)or the 400 4-speed Pontiac (high). The 1977-1981 Special Edition cars (aka "Bandit" cars) have sold for nearly $100K depending on the restoration performed, but most are in the $30K range. There's also the occasional 1979 10th Anniversary Trans Am that pops up now and then with really low mileage, and they usually get somewhere in the $30K range too.
Not bad for a low compression smog era car that ran 15's! And in 1979, they made some 100,000+ Trans Am's. The styling of those cars has made them collectors items today, and even though they aren't fast by today's standards, they were great in their day. And collectors are warming up to the fact that Trans Am's were always performance cars, with functional spoilers, excellent brakes and suspension, and became they became an American Icon of the 70's.
