What shade of black was the 70 lug nut wrench? Gloss, semi gloss, satin, flat?

Thanks.

One single thin coat of 60% gloss black,so you can see the graining & character of the metal.
Not like multiple coats that cover them up.
A single 0 is usually stamped near the hex end head of it.

Rick, Interested as to your source of info on the 60% gloss.

Is this your own conclusion based on seeing original, or written in stone somewhere.

Is there a well known aeresol, such as KRYLON 1613 or Rustoleum 7777 that replicates 60% ???????

Thanks for the education

Good info Brian..I know the "O" didn't stand for the date, but I did think it stood for A.O.Smith.

There may have been varying paint differences in these handles,as they were heavily mass produced for millions of vehicles, but that's just what I have observed when I see an untouched 70 Chevelle/Malibu.
Here's one from a 70 survivor I just inspected recently.
The camera makes it look much glossier then it really is in person.

i just checked my original low miles jack assembly on my 70 LS6. my lug wrench also has the "O" stamped on the top and the paint is very thin with semi gloss black.you can almost peel it off with your finger nail as thats how thin the paint is on there.
also my jack assembly and bottom base plate both have "0C" marked on both of them which i guess would be the date code of 1970 March, makes sence as my car was built on the 3rd week of April. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
