I've been looking for an original paint Z/28 for a long time. Does anyone know this car?

Z/28 listing (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320470903001&viewitem= &sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT#ht_500wt_1182)

I've been talking with the owner's representative and he sent me additional pictures but doesn't appear to know much about Camaros. Is anyone in the Bay Area available to check it out for me before I make flight arrangements? Thanks in advance for any help, Ed (847) 809-8022

Interesting car with the cowl and stripe delete and RS option, but it appears the auction is over?

How would there be a Cowl delete? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Somebody else who thinks that all Zs were cowl induction, I suppose.

Would the cowl tag have a -- for special order paint in this case? I seem to recall the stripe delete Zs I have seen have. I would ask.
And is that a fall of 68 short spoiler? I can't tell by the angle the pic was taken at.
If I could make out the reflectorized white plate number, which would mean the car has been registered more recently than not, I Could run the smog history, to see if it had one prior to the 25 year exemption.

Going off the VIN sequence, it is a Nov 68 build- correct spoiler and pre ZL2 RPO.

But the flat hood was standard, so how could there be a Cowl delete?

Or am I missing something here?

no, you have it right

some people think because it doesn't have an OPTION, then it is a "delete option". That is incorrect.

for instance, i have seen people refer to a car without the OPTIONAL console as a "console delete". Not sure, but they may think it is standard and you had to "delete" the standard feature.

In the case of the hood or a console, they are both OPTIONS, so having a car without them is not having a car with "delete" options ...

the Z also has the GM hood locks, cool car from the limited pictures

How do you 'delete' something that wasn't available yet? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wasn't it Heartbeat City that had the 1800 mile black stripe delete '69 Z? I believe it has a -- special order paint designation.

Sorry, HBC. It was Coast to Coast... 1800 mile stripe delete Z (http://www.coast2camaro.com/index.php?n=million_dollar_camaro)

------One of the coolest 69 Zs I ever saw was at a dealership in Newton Mass. new in 1969. It was Danube Blue with black and white houndstooth gut and white vinyl top. It was also an RS with multiple options but no stripes from the factory. Had to have been an ordered car as no dealership I ever heard of would order a Z like that for stock. My Mom lived one town over in Wellesley and yet I never saw the car again......Bill S

I love it when people think that when something is missing it is a "delete option".

That's like saying a 1969 base model, 307 Camaro has the ultra-rare ZL1 Aluminum 427 delete option.
If that is so, Didn't they make around 250,000 of them?

its like the 1970 Chevelle SS.
people say that there car is stripe delete but its not because the 1970 Chevelle SS did not come with stripes unless you ordered them as an option or if you ordered the cowl induction package you would get the stripes within the cowl induction option but you could delete the stripes from the cowl induction option. sounds confusing but true http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif

Actually, HBC used to have that car, so you were right.

But I don't think it was a special-order color because black was RPO if I'm not mistaken.

Hylton I did not end up looking at the car because the guy who is selling (he is not the owner) has 100,000 phone calls on it,people flying in from the moon to look at it yadda yadda.... In the end after hearing all of that I decided to not go look at the car
It is an early built Z standard original flat hood D80 car with a correct carry over 68 spoiler
ZL2 was an option and this car may have been built to early for a ZL2 hood , I don't remember the ZL2 optional hood became available.
Tach was an option to until around March I beleive but this car does have a 7k tach and that is correct for an early Z.

That is all I know about the car . I is a - - trim tag. I had the guy open the hood while on the phone but I have not seen a photo of the TT so I am taking his word since he had no idea what I ws talking about but that should be confirmed

Too early for a ZL2 hood.

Car has 133K miles. Somehow it lost 100K over the years.

Restamped engine, trans, and axle....
The story I had heard back in 2000 was it was bought from friend who's dad was the original owner. Might be a short ownership trail, but a lot happened....

I would like to say Thanks to Van for going out of his way to check the car out for me. I couldn't know any more about the car if I had been there myself. He and his son took a ton of pictures and were just great! Also, to Kurt for his help, research and opinions. Thank you gentlemen, Ed

Bit of a thread hijack but on the subject of early LA Z's this is the earliest i've ever seen. Also the only W suffix black plate 69 as well. NOT mine.

It was my pleasure Al . Sorry it wasn't the "right" car

Jason .. funny I thought of you as I was driving through SC . I would have given you a shout but I was actually sick and fortunate that my son was able to drive me due to his classes at school being called off due to loss of power on campus . The weather has been terrible

Just read an article and saw a picture of 101 near Story Road exit where the freeway was shut down and the freeway had standing water inches deep. Not far from where I grew up. Looks like you guys got hit with a real bad storm down there.

Believe me, I can relate!

There are so many news helicopters over my house, the windows are rattling. Everyone in town was just notified to knock off driving down flooded streets... the wakes are going into the ground level of houses. I'm lucky to have an older place that sits up high as the lot has never been scraped. And I still have power!
