If you are from or near the area... perhaps you know Gary Roe (aka - DEADBEAT). He took $500 of my hard earned dollars as partial payment for a 1969 Chevelle 12 bolt rearend that he advertised on Craigslist, and since the money arrived he's gone silent. I sure hope that I'm wrong about him, but if someone could pay him a visit and take the rearend or my money off his hands... I'd greatly appreciate it (and I'd sure make it worth their while).

Contact Dennis Cumby or even Mayor Ken Brown of LaHarpe, he does the Gibb Show. I bet they know somebody who could help you. I hate when that happens! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

Sorry to hear the news Helmut..
If you sent the $ across the border by mail it might be considered Mail-Fraud so may be worth telling him this?.
Do you have his Phone # and if so do you know if the *67 feature before dialing him works across the border to block your #?.
Googling shows the below...same # in other car part ads plus he advertised a couple 12Bolts on RacingJunk too...

Sorry to hijack the thread. Mine is a post car as well. Not a resto but more of a fun car. I bought it all original with the 300-6, 48,000 miles. Its not perfect but its fun with its 427 now. Getting lots of upgrades this winter too.

I'd like to confirm that he has the specific rearend that he agreed to sell me which I put up the $500 deposit for. If he has it, I still need to pay him the outstanding balance and take delivery of the rearend. If he doesn't have the rearend, then I'd like to get my $500 deposit back.
If you can help me verify and purchase the rearend, I will gladly compensate you. If you can get my deposit back, I'll gladly give you a good size portion of it. I want to emphasize that this isn't worth anyone getting hurt, so please don't take any chances. I haven't met Gary so I don't know what to expect... other than I know he doesn't have the kahuna's to answer his phone when I call.
Give me a call at 403-803-3879 and I can provide more details.
Thanks.

Helmut, have you talked to anyone that can possibly pay the remainder of the payment and just take possesion of the rearend...if he still has it? Then you KNOW you will get it when you can make it down here.
Just a suggestion, Kurt

That's what I'm hoping for...
I sent you a PM, but your box is full. I would first start with going to your local police dept. and making a report with them.

Thanks, I cleaned out my box.
Since this is a cross-border issue, the local police don't even want to take a statement... and if they do, they tell you straight-up that they won't even pickup the phone to make a single inquiry on the matter. The number of files they have on matters like this are enormous, and they don't have the resources to pursue it. They told me that they pursued a matter where one of their own officers got ripped off for a large sum of money... apparently even that was unsuccessful.
I realize that it is an across the border transaction,BUT, before "we" would even begin to touch it we would want to see an original report documented with the alleged allegations. DO NOT take this the wrong way, but I would not risk my career on taking someone's word over the internet about an alleged crime. I know that people could still lie even if they make a report,BUT having the complainant file a written report puts some onus on them as well. However, the main problem with these cases is in determining where the alleged crime took place. We get these quite often and document them either way. We do not go to Canada to pick people up on "small" deals like this and I believe the "Feds" have a dollar amount of a loss that must be met before they will become involved, last I heard it was $5000.00. If you get the report filed then I would call the Peoria Police Department and ask them to find this guy and get a statement from him about what happened in this deal. Many times when "we" show up to talk these people they suddenly become inspired to finish the deals.

Can you believe it... today, almost a month after I couriered my money order to him, Gary sent back my $500 money order in the mail. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif
If someone helped convince him to do that, I sure appreciate it! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif
