They're forecasting 18"-24" here before it's all done. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif

I'm tired of this crap! Every weekend is either raining, snowing, or too cold to do anything outside.

Can't wash the salt off the daily drivers because temps are below freezing.

My back told me it didn't want to shovel any more so I ran out and found a new snowblower at Lowes on Wed and it was $100 off the early season price! There's also talking about a snowstorm Tue-Wed so if I get more than 1 use out of this season it will be worth it. All this white stuff sure can mess up your golf game though! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm sitting in my hotel room outside of Baltimore, MD in the middle of this white stuff! It's almost 1 am and there's already about a foot on the ground. When I flew out of Burbank it was 70 degrees!! You guys need some mountains here so you can keep the snow up there like we do in So-Cal! I just keep saying a few more days... a few more days... ahhhhhhhhh...

When we had the big blizzards, years ago, people actually had to get up on those flat roofs and clear all the snow off. And then come spring, alot of those flat rubber roofs were being redone. Luckly I live in a pitched roof home.

It's been wicked here in northern Arizona too, I work every other week in Show Low Arizona. Not all of AZ is desert. These are pics from the storm that hit the week of Barrett Jackson. We are expecting 6-8 inches more tonight thru Sunday. There is a silver lining, probably hangar the helicopter tonight thru Monday AM and I won't have to worry about going flying during the Superbowl.

Yep, I think the snowmen are in the deep freeze, cant go out the back door, the snow falling off the roof has it buried. Don't know who made the snowmen, they were there when I came up a month ago.

Late Saturday morning, already 18" on the ground....

http://onewaystreet.smugmug.com/Weather/Winter-2009/2-6-2010-Snow-pics-001/783429117_vHzdR-O.jpg

http://onewaystreet.smugmug.com/Weather/Winter-2009/2-6-2010-Snow-pics-002/783429119_zQnAX-O.jpg

We started digging out around 4PM on Saturday afternoon. My snow blower broke about 2 hours into digging out. So my son and I had to dig out the old fashion way.

http://onewaystreet.smugmug.com/Weather/Winter-2009/2-6-2010-Snow-pics-004/783429121_UTdBs-O.jpg

We finished digging out today. And when we finished, I found the snow blower manual, read it, found that there are 2 belts inside the auger assembly. I removed the 6 10MM bolts and found one of the belts came off the pulley. After taking about 5 minutes to fix it and put the cover back on, it was back up and running. Maybe I should look into a deep groove pulley upgrade.

Guess I should have tried to fix it Saturday. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif I HATE winter!

Guys be carefull with all that snow on your roof.Especially if you get rain later, makes the load even heavier. We got a lot of snow here two years ago and a couple of home's roofs caved in.Go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy a roof rake, long ajustable pole with a plastic scoop on the end,and standing on the ground you can pull snow off of the roof. It's not only flat roofs that you have to worry about.Peaked also.Bill.

ORIGLS6
02-10-2010, 09:49 PM
Also need to be aware of ice dams that form under the snow in roof valleys and at the gutters. Those can trap water from the melting snow and cause leaks that may go un-noticed for a while.

Yeah, we had 7" of wet packing snow when I got up this morning. I was working from home but decided to go out and run the snowblower to clear it before the temps dropped and it froze solid. That was a good decision because we are now at 28 degrees and dropping fast! We'll probably get another foot or more on top of the overnight snow we got. This is just incredible for the mid Atlantic. Down around DC/Balt has a heck of a lot more than us too!

Once again I'm glad this N'orEaster is turning out to sea before it reaches us. Last year they all hit us.

Bruce, that satellite shot looks great. What site did you get that from?

We're the same here Glenn and Sammy. My wife's butterfly bushes used to reach above the rim of the roof.

She wanted me to take a picture of her bird house with its new afro before dark. IT's still hanging with another 5" on it. We're checking it every so often to see how long it lasts.....
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j320/VerneFrantz/VLFPrivate/WinterBlizzard005.jpg
By the way, that birdhouse is about 15" tall.

The swing set at the lower right corner now has a VERY large branch from that maple tree lying over it. Photo was taken at 5pm.

You could pile that into railcars and send it to Vancouver for the winter Olympics. They're trucking snow 140 miles from Manning Park to Cypress Bowl in West Vancouver so it will look wintery for the TV cameras.
That's the snowboarding venue. Whistler is OK for snow.

Last night while running the snow blower up and down the driveway, it found the newspaper, buried in the snow. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif

Took about 45 minutes to unjam it. The v-belt broke, so now I have to find another. Looked in my parts stash, but none were the same size. Sure hope Pep Boys or Salvo is open today.

I was out last night clearing the driveway at 11:30pm so I would be ready to go this morning. Our road wasn't too bad but I talked to someone at work and he said the entrance and parking lot at work was really bad. My 2000 SS Camaro most likely won't make it out of the parking lot at work due to the upslope so I'm working from home again today. They're calling for another 6-9" storm late on Monday! We don't have anywhere left to put the snow. All the trees and bushes are leaning over because it was 20" of wet snow that sticks.

I dunno if you guys never really get lots of snow like this cuzz all your pics still have snow on all your roofs and are unaware whats coming?? but you really need to get it off your roofs, if it gets wet your going to start popping roof trusses and test your insurance coverage out.

you should have seen all the damage out here a few years back after a doozy like you guys got and then some rain, houses crushed, boat sheds collapsed sank boats, etc.. not good.
