Guys...what years would this tach have been offered?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Tac-off-a...sQ5fAccessories (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Tac-off-a-1962-Chevrolet-Impala_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3caa335359QQitem Z260553528153QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fA ccessories)
Thanks, Tony
Real nice item there...looks like tach #993716.
First offered as an accessory on all 8cyl. passenger cars & trucks during 1969.
Continued being available for a few years after,up until 1973-4 I believe.
Quote from vintage Chevrolet archives..
"An electronic tachometer w/silicone transisitor & replaceable dial bulb. All units are calibrated for use on 8cyl. engines. This tach is accurate from idle speed to full engine RPM's.The transistorized circut is automatically protected against damage in case the battery polarity is reversed."

Those are awesome tachs and pretty rare.. I picked up an NOS one off e-bay a couple years ago which was unopened still in the Chevy Box. I installed it in my 70 Nova SS. Some people think it is a fuzzbuster on the dash... You also gotta have the Chevy Bowtie Compass....
Very Cool Piece.... Seems like alot of money though for a used piece.. I paid $450.00 for mine as an NOS piece.. Just my .02....

My part # off the box is 987099

Your tach was issued as an accessory 1st in 1967 for same vehicles.
I think the one on ebay is actually the same as yours, being an #099,not a #716.
The #716 replaced it during late 1968 for '69.
I believe the grain on the case is the difference between the two.One smooth '67,the other is pebble '68-69.

Thats correct except the 68-69 one has the GM logo instead of the Bowtie. also. Thats a good price for that tach. I just sold one last week on ebay for 660.00 and a nos one these days goes for over 1000.00. You got a good deal on that tach. Most times Ive seen them used is on 69 Impala SS cars because no Factory Tach was offered. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
I don't know if that's entirely true Don,although it is typical of them.
I have seen two of the #716 pebble grain tachs & both were without the GM logo. Both were NOS in the box.
I always thought as you,but after I saw those 2,I don't know if they just slipped through the cracks or..?

I remember the pebble grain tachs having the GM logo on top rather than the bowtie... The 1969 dealer accessory book shows the tach like mine, with the bowtie, in their list of accessories.. I knew the GM pebble grain ones were later, early 70s...
I didn't realize these tachs were pulling that kind of money now... I'm happy I grabbed another, used one, off ebay shortly after I bought the NOS one.. The used one is in VGC, not sure if it works. I paid around 200 bucks for it and have it in my Chevy display case... I bought it just to have it and a spare..

i was always under the impression that the tachs with the bowtie were for chevys and the tachs with the GM were for Buick or possibly Olds...?? I know I read that somewhere...I believe the tachs with the Chevy are supposedly worth more....just my .02

BTW...I recently posted a pic with the original box of my NOS ŽbowtieŽ accesory tach on the thread of my 67 Z Trans Am build. But cannot seem to copy it on here. I am arriving home from Brazil tomorrow, and I will check the date on the box...maybe that will lend a clue..??

I am missing the metal bracket from one of these tachs. Can one of you guys please help me out with dimensions so I can fabricate one myself? Thanks, Tony

Tony, these are pictures and dimensions of an NOS one that I have. The black piece is a rubber gasket that would go underneath. Hope this helps... Rich

BTW..that is the same part number as my NOS tach...no date on the box, but the instructions are dated Sept 1966...the tach was apparently available for the 67 model year...
..anyone else heard this about the tachs with the 'GM' being for the Buick or Olds? Does anyone have an NOS 'GM' tach? What do the instructions say? The 'bowtie' instructions have different view for each of the three Chevy applications, Camaro, Chevelle, and full-size. I was wondering what the GM tach instructions say.
