Looking to buy a decent pair of aftermarket alum heads..recomendations?..going to support a 489/496 combo..thanks

Have had great results with the Dart 325s and the Edelbrocks.Both combos with hyd rollers make 600/600.

I like my Dart heads 816 hp Been together 3 years............set the valves once!!!!!! Thats it.
OK maybe replace a plug once in awhile.

Just curious when we speak about HP goals on this forum, are we usually talking about WHP as measured on a chassis dyno? Just wanted to clarify cause the delta in this range would be about 120 hp.

Shouldn't be too much of a problem with any set of heads considering your cubes...the killer port velocity of a worked set of ovals would make for a fun street car with plenty of boogie.

You can easily make that with a set of OEM heads, oval or rectangle.
If you want to go with aftermarket heads, I'd look at either the AFR 305's (http://www.airflowresearch.com/index.php?cPath=68_71) or the Brodix Race-Rite's (http://www.brodix.com/heads/raceritebb.html).

I have dart heads on my 725 hp pump gas street car and drive it everywhere.

Check these guy's they hand port & polish there heads. Did my car and can't beat stuff done by hand.

Why do you say you can't beat stuff done by hand? AFRs are awesome. A buddy and I went to their shop years ago to pick up a set of heads he ordered for a Mustang. I asked for a tour. I was very impressed.

Just an opinion.
Look on the link and read the part about the diffrence in CNC porting vs. hand porting. just an opinion and it makes alot of sense. Better flow on hand ported and more accurate when done by hand

Hand porting is only as accurate when you measure every part of each port as you port them and get repeatable results based on a known head design.I dont care what anybody says,I have bee hand porting heads in my garage for years,and if you take a set of really well designed heads and plot them out on a computer and have a CNC machine duplicate what you enter,you will be hard pressed to get the same results with any level of repeatabitly working by hand.Hand finishing the CNC work is criical,but once you have a port design that works,I think the CNC machine is the best way to dulicate it.If you have a big shop and want t know how a head is going to respon to moving the port a set amount,it is much easier to do it by changing the design in the CNC program then tryng to guesstimate it by hand.
What I do today could best be descibed as hand finishing heads.Bowl blending,or widening the short turn,but a good set of CNC heads from a knowlagable maufacturer like AFR is leaps and bounds ahead of what most hand porters can do.Add hand finshing to the CNC head and you wont touch it by hand especially for the price

Like I said just my opinion, I have seen alot of work from that shop on same bad azz street cars 900 hp running on pump gas with there heads. I can tell you the stuff that come out of "Thunderz" is just that, IT THUNDERZ! The things will work.
As far as CNC stuff, yes it works on some "generic" stuff, but it's not all that it's cracked up to be. I've been CNC stuff for 20+ years now.
Now as far as heads for this 496, I would look at RHS 320's or Race Flow Development Victor "small bore" Eddy's. I can tell you this, I would NEVER put the 305's on MY 498 as the things would stop at like 5000 RPM!
