I am in the process of choosing a color for my 1971 Nova. It is not a special car like most of the car here, but you all pay great attention to detail an originality, which I appreciate. My car has the original number's matching 307/PG drivetrain, and is a very original car. It was originally a california car, and will have all original sheet metal, aside from the tail panel which was damaged in an accident, and had some rust issues in the bottom seam where it meets the body. The bottom line is that my car is quite original and unbutchered, and I want to honor that with an originally available color. I am not stuck on '71 but something that was available on a 1968-1972 Nova is preferable. I am just having a very difficult time finding pictures of cars painted original colors.

I would greatly appreciate anyone posting cars in original colors, doesnt necessarily have to be a nova either, I just want to see the color on a car. I am mainly looking at reds, preferably something sort of dark, similar to this burgundy nova http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/340902/page/3/fpart/1/vc/1

that car seems to change colors from pic to pic, any idea of thats just the camera, or does it happen in real life too?

also either dark blue or green, but feel free to post any.

thanks for any help you guys can provide
Ben

IMO, go with Astro Blue.. It's a dynamite color and you do not see many Novas in that color at all....

On Marlin's behalf, I would like to put in one vote for Gobi Beige! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Welcome aboard Be! Good to have another Nova dude round here. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, I will always argue for another Gobi Beige car, but since he's interested in the reds.... I'd throw a vote for the '69 Garnet Red. It's a striking color when done correctly.

I agree, Garnet red(correctly) or Burgandy http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

I second the Citrus Green.Awsome color.Black or white interior is best.Color matched 15x8 steelies with dog dish caps would really set it apart. If you want to keeep it lower budget and milder looking try some 14 inch 2nd gen Nova/Camaro ralley wheels painted to match.

Garnet red. Camera flash can effect the color at times. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif

On a Nova I'd say;
1. Ralley Green
2. Fathom Blue
3.Citrus Green

Here are three pics of the same car. Paint code 67-67 on trim tag. Note color changes due to lighting.

Garnet red is a super color, as it changes dramatically with the lighting - be it natural or artificial. The key for G-red is getting the right shade. It looks great with either black or white interiors or stripe colors. It looks mean with XT's and classy with cragars. Sombody pull a pic of the '69 GR Yenko Nova that the SCW restored a few years back.

Ya can't beat it with a stick!

Thanks for all the insight guys!
I appreciate the time you all took to post the pics, of some really good looking cars i might add.
My car was originally sandalwood, which s somewhat close to gobi beige i think, but i am looking for a different type of color, not sure if i want loud, mean or unique.
I do like the garnet red, but im not sure i like the color changes.

I am going to leave the car in primer for a while until i can see some cars in real life i think. Up here in maine there are a few shows, but I think i am going to try and hit up the All-GM Nationals in Carlisle PA this June, I've been to their swap meet and the All Fords (with my brother (who has a 1970 Mustang coupe) and dad (2002 Mustang GT). It was definitley a big show and i am sure i can find some colors i like at All GM.
Feel free to post any other color suggestions but pictures just dont do paint colors justice IMO.
again thanks for the insight guys, i really appreciate it.

Plus leaving it in primer will give me some time to save a little money for paint, and I can put a dual exhaust and some other choice items on it, moneys not easy to come by for a high schooler as some of you may know. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
