First off........No one mention 1 of 1, L-89, 074's or anything else in reference to that thread and we will be able bring this thread to a final conclusion........With that said, as I remember we were at about this point in the construction when the other thread was interupted....
The chassis was at about this point so I will bring everyone up to where we are now.....

Got all the Brake lines in and the system is bled and operational
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC00849.jpg
E-Brakes are also installed and working.........

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC00846.jpg
Also.....got the fuel system completed.....It's a GTO fuel pump built into the 37 tank.....the GTO Pump assy is a single line design, thats why there isn't a return line

Now we get into the interesting stuff.........Things that "Spark" if they aren't assembled correctly.....LOL....Got all the factory computer harnesses modified by Speartech in Indiana....opened the box and got goosebumps.........With the excellent diagram and instructions, in about 15 minutes everything was plugged in.....Well almost.....

Today's projects were to put Gas in the tank and get the fuel pump working, pressurize the system and check for leaks before putting the body on.....Got it powered up and found out immediately that tight is not tight at 60psi....Tightened everything again.....and got all the leaks taken care of......Glad I did that before the body was on........

Are you going to paint it body color, or leave it a neutral? The reason I ask is that there can be an adheision issue with the welting sometimes depending on what you spray it with.

This is not the wheel or tire size I will be using, we just mocked it up to get the back spacing set....the tire on that rim is 27" in dia and the size we are going to use will be 29" in dia.......with the 29" tire and the gear ratio in the rear I should be around 1800 rpm at 65 MPH....The rims and tires should be on the car early next week.....
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01058-1.jpg
One of the other issues I'm dealing with is the 1pc windshield.....seems the glass place is having some issues with getting the glass shaped correctly.....the windshield was installed at the body shop and when I picked the body up I really didn't focus on the glass as I was blown away by the body and paint work....after a week of looking at the glass, I can't stand to look at it any more.....I'm in communication with the glass company trying to get a good piece of glass......if that doesn't happen......out it comes and I'll just have to put in the flat "V" butted windshield...

I also cut a hole in the floor and got the wiring inside the car today......I 've got a couple of plates made that will seal the opening in the floor and traps a rubber grommet around the harness as it comes thru the floor to seal everything ......I was trying to figure out where to fit the ECM and decided that I would mount it right in the middle of the firewall as I have a real neat touch screen radio that I have to build a mini console for so it will be hidden behind it........The radio is pretty cool.....Flip screen, touch screen, navigation system, satellite radio, audio and video CD player, and it has a camera built in for backing up......

Whoa! I have to disagree; that windshield would drive me nuts. The fit isn't good but more importantly, that's GOTTA give some serious distortion when you look through the center part. As cool as it COULD be, personally, I'd opt for the butt-joint flat pieces. I could get used to the seam, but I think the distortion issue would be a constant irritation.

Got the transmission shifter cable up to the steering column area area ready to be hhoked up later.....also got the computer harness finished off where it came thru the floor and up the firewall with the hole finished off and the harness sealed and insulated with a big rubber gromett....I also made a plate for mounting the ECM and the trans module and got it mounted to the firewall and got the harness roughly mounted in place.....It actually fit pretty good..........

First off.............The "Tangle" of wires is disappearing.........
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01147.jpg
And I have all the outside A.C. and heater lines crimped and assembled.......the break in the two smaller lines in the pic is where the Filter/Drier goes.........
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01145.jpg
Also got the gas tank vent put in.......I positioned it high in the wheel well opening where it will be covered by the fender and high enough to do the job.....It has a small slotted screened area that is facing away from where the tire would throw stuff that is where the vent opening is
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01148.jpg
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01149.jpg
As I was digging around looking for some parts today I came across the coil covers and just for the heck of it I put them on....I didn't think they would fit, and they dropped right on.........
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01151.jpg
Now............At this point Dave said "Let's see if it will start"..........Hit the key and it started Imediately.....Wow!!.......I didn't have much faith in the engines starting with the complexity of the wiring and everything else.....Just go's to show that Dave and the GM Engineers know what they are doing......Even the drive by wire gas pedal worked http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Got the new thermostat housing in, it will make getting a lower radiator hose to fit a lot easier and will look neater......Before and after

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01167.jpg
Also neatened up the towers for the windshield wipers, there used to be a nut holding the unit together and a threaded stud that a big nut went on that held the wiper arm on...........cut off the stud and tapped the shaft and threaded the inside of the tower guide to eliminate the nut.....cleaned it all.....I'll make a decorative cap that will probably be installed and just install the wipers if needed..........
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01169.jpg
also got the heater hoses installed and heres a shot of the Volkswagen Beetle wiper assembly modified and installed, also the defrosters are hooked up.....

Interesting day today......Since I had the doors at home for safe keeping, I can only bring one at a time safely in the back of the pick-up.....got the first one down and installed today.......Making "Progress"...
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01753.jpg
Remounted the Optima battery and installed a shut off switch for the Battery to make life easier.....then Dave got the Partstrain Interface Module installed today and after a little head scratching and dinking around, we jacked the rear tires off the ground and started the car to see if the GTO gauge module would work......
Look at the module.....Tach works, speedo works, fuel gauge works.....but the Temp gauge didn't and we got some errors in the display
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01746.jpg
Dave is going to get together with John at Speartech to try and resolve these issues.......But......We are moving foward very quickly.....
As we were checking the speedo (gonna have to recalibrate it) we noticed that the rear wheels were slightly wobbling.....Hummm!!! Lugnuts were tight.......Pulled the wheels off and everything looked O.K.......Put a Dial indicator on the Rotors and noticed that there was a lot of runout....Hummm!!!.....pulled the rotor off and couldn't see anything....put it back on and tighten it up and it still had runout.....Humm!!!......After checking again I noticed that there was a shiney spot on the chamfer on the rotor I.D. where it mounted against the axle flange........Determined that the chamfer from the factory was not large enough to clear the diameter on the axle flange that originally located the brake drum.......Being a "Spoiled Brat"....I just happened to have a lathe 10' away and machined it larger and reassembled everything ....Runout.....Gone......

If anyone can help out resolving some issues, it would be greatly appreciated........With the GTO Gauge module plugged in, we have Tachometer and Speedometer functions.......the fuel gauge raises from the power off position to the "E" level......I only put a couple of gallons in the tank so it might be correct.....I will add some more fuel tomorrow to see if the needle rises.......with that said.....after the ECM go's thru the start up diagnostics.....we get a fuel level gauge error.....also the Temp gauge doesn't work and the ECM won't turn the cooling fan on......any input would be appreciated......
Now, for today's progress.....Got the drivers door installed....got most of the hardware installed in both doors.....

Got the door glass installed today.....one of the reasons I didn't put power windows in is that these cars had a neat feature where the window slides back as you start to roll it down and you get a mini vent window.........Decided to keep that feature

Taking the car to the Upholstry shop tomorrow.....I held off on finishing the dash until I knew that we were going to get the GTO Dash Module to be functional.......Since that happened, I can now finish up the install......Here are some pic's.....I originally roughed in a basic frame for the module......

While the car is in for upholstry, I got the dash roughed in ready to go back to the body shop for finishing and painting........got all the garnish mouldings ready also....

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01865.jpg
After a bunch of head scratching, I decided to only build the center A/C vent into the dash.......I was going to build two more (one on each end of the Dash) into the dash, but there was so much of a profile change in those area's that it wouldn't have looked right......so I make some Aluminum bezel plates and mount them just below the dash at each end..........
The blank area in below the center vent will get a CNC'd decorative emblem made to fill in that area........couldn't mount anything in that area that had any depth to it as the A/C unit is right behind that area and there just isn't any room..........
I also got the headlight buckets stripped, modified for the Halogen light kit, painted and assembled, they are just waiting for the car to come home for installation...

Ken, I'm so impressed by your ambition and drive to finish this project. A lot of it really hits home to me because I used to work in a very similar shop and built several cars there one piece at a time. Now.....I couldn't actually bring the entire car into work but I'd work on a different part everyday after I finished my "official" duties and bring the pieces home for installation. I always worried about if anything would ever happen to that job how difficult things would become as far as car-building.

One of the big problems I had left to deal with was the rear quarter window seals......when I took the car apart 10 years ago, I threw the seals out figuring that I would just buy new ones........Lesson Learned.....(never throw anything out until you have a replacement as good or better than your old part).....Well....when it came time and I was ordering all the parts for the car I found out that these seals were not being reproduced and weren't available anywhere........The quarter windows on this particular model are of the "Swing Out" style and are unique to the Club Coupe......standard Ford coupes had a fixed window in that position.......(Club Coupe has a rear seat and the standard does not)......So.....What to do.....
This seal attaches to the garnish moulding and seals the window as its pivots and also has a outer lip that seals the window opening to the opening in the body.........After looking thru catalogs I seen that the 46-48 Ford coupe had the same type of window......Humm!!......I decided to take a $100 gamble and buy a set hoping they would be close to the profile I needed......when they showed up I noticed that they were much larger but the cross section profile looked like it was close and I thought I would be able to modify them somehow....Well!!.........Today was the day......Here are some pic's of the process...........
Starting point.....Garnish moulding and window assy........Missing the seal between the window frame and the moulding.........
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01849.jpg
As you can see the seal is larger than the moulding
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01850.jpg
After sectioning the seal I test fit it into the channel and it fit and sealed perfectly (the lip on the seal in this pic should be on the other side)
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01852.jpg
I started with the Pivot holes and started working around after cutting some sections out
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01885.jpg
The shape followed the radius pretty good without any puckering
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01886.jpg
I got it figured out to fit with only two seams or joints....But....trying to cut soft rubber and get a perfectly square end were the two parts came together was not that easy..........I didn't want any leaks or to be able to see the jointed area
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01888.jpg
So..........Being a "Spoiled Brat" again............I made up a block that had the same shape as the seal channel and slid the seal into the block which I had mounted on a surface grinder and ground the end perfectly square
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01892.jpg
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01884.jpg
Then I cut the upper piece to fit the upper pivot hole and fit and ground the ends and made this piece to be slightly longer than need be to provide a little compression (about a 1/32") at the joint.......Bingo.....a finished seal.....I love it when a plan comes together.........
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01891.jpg
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/DSC01893.jpg
Another thing crossed off the list...........Now I can get all the garnish mouldings painted for installation when the car comes back from the upholstry shop.........

One of the few things that I don't like about a 37 Ford is the way the tail lights are mounted as stock......the tail light stand is big and it raises the tail light high off the fender and is almost like an after thought......Stock....
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a251/kwhizz/37%20Ford%20Project/taillights1.jpg
and I don't like the smoothie look where they are flush with the fender surface......so............I decided to make a custom tail light stand that would move the tail light much lower and closer to the fender........we have Solidworks solid modeling software at the shop so I sat down today and designed up some stands that would do what I wanted.......the parts will be machined tomorrow so I can get the assy's finished and ready for paint next week......here are some Solidworks models as to how they will look..........

Here's some pic's from today....................More assy.........The LS engine now looks like a neat package.........

I talked to a Tech at TCI where the front suspension came from as I was concerned about the front springs being too stiff and the front end sitting too high.....He said that after I got some miles on it the springs would settle....but...If I loaded some weight on the front it would quicken the settling process...So......Here was my bandaid fix....LOL

I also didn't like the way the car sounded with generic Turbo Mufflers, so..I bought some Flowmasters and put them on today also.......

Got the front bumper on also along with some Fog Lights that I had......The Jury is still out on the Fog Lights........If they stay on, they will be my turn signals...

You answered my next question before I asked it. (I wondered what you were using for front turn signals.) So now I'll ask, do you have the accessory panel that mounts between the grille and the radiator? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/naughty.gif
Wickedly cool car. And the attention to detail. Yeow. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/worship.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/worship.gif
My vote is to keep the fog lamps. I think they look Ggggrrreeaattt on the Club Coupe, particularly with a front bumper. Very tasty. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

Spent the day today getting the front sheetmetal aligned....and Dave was over getting the wiring ready for the Dash installation and he also got the Driver Information Control button (DIC) that came out of a GTO to work and the Dash Module now functions just like the factory designed......Pretty cool....I also decided to keep the Fog Lights as turn signals, I'm just going to make new mounts for them so the bottom of the light will be the same height as the top of the bumper......called the place I got the bumpers from and they are sending out a rear bumper next day air .......Man....that went too easy............

turn signals built into the headlights would be cool also. seen them at shows, but not sure who makes them. Roger

I searched and searched and couldn't even come close to finding one fitting this excellent piece of work.
Here is one from the guy next door that NEVER has the right tool.

I decided to not rush everything and not push getting the car done for the Dells.....Too many little things I need to make and finish......Maybe Rolling Meadows in two weeks <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif
