Great working conditions. And people wonder why their products are so cheap. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif
This is one great illustration of why we pay more for items made in the US. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif
I think I spy the American Boss here.

This is a tough subject.......if you had to, chose to pay for USA mfg goods versus everything we currently import from China/Asia you wouldnt like it.
We as a nation want/enjoy lower pricing on eveything that is sold at ALL the major stores, but complain about the loss of American jobs and quality.
I'm no economist and surely dont have the answer, but doubt there is any turning back. We will all be dead and buried, but I'd surely like to know what will have happened to this great American society in say fifty years.
It took 200+ years to have come this far and how many years will it take to ............

The western world had pretty much the same situation in the 18th century. Lots of lowcost labor in dirty factories.
China will get were we are in much shorter time, but who will do the cheap stuff then?
Big problem in the long run is all the money we send them, the only thing we can sell back is real estate.
They will conquer the world with money instead of nukes.
What if they buy the rest of the world and we all become chinese http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

With all the money our Government has borrowed from China, our descendants will soon be speaking Chinese.

The Greeks conquered their empire with new technology and a will to make everybody they defeated assimilate their culture, and be just like them. Then they got over extended and became weak trying to make things work. This gave the Romans the opportunity they needed to defeat the Greeks and take over their empire. The Roman empire became corrupt when they got so greedy they could see no reason that wealth should be shared, and their own military was too poor to defend their empire for them.
Any of this sound familiar? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Unlike the Greeks or the Romans, we now have a much more competitive and complex world to live in. We imported slaves from Africa. We built the railroads with Chinese forced labor. We stole this country from the natives and told them to stay on the reservation. We also opened the country to poor immigrants so that rich businessmen could get richer from their labor. Democracy made this country free, and proved that free people can gain wealth with hard work.
Unlike any other country in history, the USA has given away more money to aid needy other people because of poverty.
We became the Arsenal of Democracy. We rebuilt the countries we destroyed. People laughed at Japanese and German "junk" until they ate our lunch.
People never change. China will not always be a poor country. They want their children to get educated so that they can live a better life.
People survive, empires crumble. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif

If anyone wants an interesting read - look at last Friday's (3/12/10) copy (I think it was last Friday) of the Wall Street Journal. Big article on newest busines trend in manufacturing called "onshoring". Companies like Caterpillar are bringing back manufacturing jobs to the USA for a varirty of reasons.

Yeah, I liked it too.
You know, if we Americans offer to make those spark plugs for free perhaps we can win back those jobs? I mean, the best way to beat the competition is to outbid them, in this case outbid them downward. We could become the "all-volunteer" American workforce and those other countries would speed those jobs right back here. We could call it "The Race to the Bottom."
