Evolution performance of Delaware county pa has a loaded 6 speed 5.0 GT and they have it down to 12.48 @ 113 at atco with ET streets tires and upper control arms to stop the wheel hop. NO other things done to it yet. They are shooting for the 10's with a light addition of nos and a tune and slicks. Sweet. These cars are going to rule the streets.:)

Update on this.

With a drop in filter, tune, Borla axleback, rear suspension, Bogarts and slicks:

11.98 @ 117MPH with a 1.67 60ft
11.85 @ 117MPH with a 1.64 60ft
11.82 @ 118MPH with a 1.63 60ft

Runs made back to back with no cool down. Fully loaded car, 3800 pound race weight.

1.6x 60' and 118 on an untouched engine. This should get interesting.

Once these times get widespread attention and hit the magazines, Ford will again sell a TON of 5.0 Mustangs, but the good news is GM will definitely take notice.!!!

I think it's great news. The 4.6 was a good motor but we all know the Mustang needed more and the 5.0 will get-er-done.

Hopefully GM will get off their duffs and lighten the Camaro up.

They're starting to trickle into the dealers already. Might take some effort to find one, but they're out there.

I hope the Camaro and Challenger both go on diets. Cool cars, but heavy. The Challenger in particular needs to make the call to Weight Watchers.

The 4.6 wasn't as bad as some people tried to make it out to be, and actually in some respects was a very impressive engine. But for some reason, I'm not nearly as upset about it's departure as I was when my dearly beloved pushrod SBF bowed out after '95. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/no.gif

I agree that both need to trim some fat.

From what I have read...the Camaro was roughly 300 pounds heavier than the Mustang and the Challenger weighed more than the Camaro.

allthough i own ford/gm and mopar cars.
i give Ford the thumbs up all the time with the new muscle cars.
Camaro and Challenger still cant keep up with what Ford is doing with the GT 500 Shelby and now the 5.0 Mustang.
I am so glad i bought my 2007 GT 500 after driving both the new Camaro and Challenger's this year i still think Ford has the best Muscle cars of today with there Mustang.
I have a 1970 Challenger R/T S.E. but i just cant get myself to like the modern day Challengers, there just to big and fat looking and the Camaro looks to much like the new Challengers.

It's kind of amazing that the Mustang weighs close to 4,000 pounds and it's the lightweight member of the group. I don't think the typical 409 Impala weighs that much.

It's a far cry from my '88 LX notch. Sans engine and trans, I think two decent sized guys could pick that thing up and run down the street with it. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smirk.gif

Not even close to stock. There's a couple over on the SRT8GC forum running mid-11's N/A, but they're 440-inch+ strokers, gutted interiors, and modded to the b@lls.

Edit: In fact, I believe one of them is the same truck that appears in one of your videos. Yeah, not even remotely stock.

The new 5.0 is not even close to 4000 lbs. They are 3600 w/o a driver.

Norm, NO SRT8 Jeep runs anywhere close to 11's stock. They are 13 second cars on a good day

Well, yeah, dry weight on a base stick car. Evolution's car is loaded. 3800 and some change in the beams with a driver in the seat. That's pretty close to two tons.

Our '10 Camaro was 3840 without anyone in the seat...dead nuts on 4000lbs with dad in it.<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: old5.0</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Update on this.

Those Bogarts are a serious drag wheel setup...what size wheels/tires/brakes do the Mustangs come with? On the '10 Camaros you have to do a complete brake &quot;downgrade&quot; to get them to fit...without a brake change, I believe an 18&quot; wheel is as small as you can go? A guy could really pick up some et/mph from simply getting away from the huge 20&quot; wheels/tires...

Ford has done it again. The 5.0's will rule the streets one more time. The 80's/90's 5.0 was revolutionary for Ford. Parts became cheap and the aftermarket sold a bunch. Sounds like round two for the Mustang

The old 5 liters really were revolutionary, particularly considering the times they existed in. The fact that stodgy, staid, always-late-to-the-party Ford was building them was almost a miracle. They were the populist musclecar Ford wished they had in the 60's. We'll see if the new one can recreate the magic. The obvious difference is the price, but these may be fast enough that the high price tag is irrelevant.

Great article. Thanks for posting that.

My favorite part:

&quot;But this sixth-generation Mustang (depending on the way you count them) is a clean and simple design and the only Mustang iteration that's a complete stylistic break from the other generations (10 of them altogether, depending on the way you count them). There's no running horse in the grille, there's no C-shaped indentation along the flanks and the rear brake lights aren't in three segments. This is the only Mustang that is its own unique thing. And the GT came as a hatchback back when it was OK to be a hatchback.&quot;

Really, really like the new generation 'Stangs, but the Fox body style just never did it for me. I respect their place in musclecar history, but asthetically, the just didn't appeal to me.

But, I guess that's why there is chocolate and vanilla.

You'll never find a bigger Fox fan than me, but I'll be the first to admit that they aren't beautiful cars, at least not in the same way that a 66 Chevelle or a 68 Charger is beautiful. But to me, there isn't a more purposeful looking car on earth than a black LX coupe with a cowl hood and big n' little Draglites. Not pretty, but an icon, all the same.

Everybody has their favorites. Personally, I just love musclecars. New, old, GM, Mopar, Ford, whatever. I'd love to open my garage some day and see my notch sleeping next to a 69 COPO Camaro (black or Fathom Blue 4-speed) and a 69 Judge (Palladium Silver R/A IV) and a 65 L78 Biscayne and a 68 R/A II Firebird and 68 Road Runner and.... well, I better stop there or this'll be a long post.

I bought a brand new 89 LX 5.0 stripper back in the day. The day I took it home; Pulley kit, Airbox etc. and started street racing it that night. That was a very fun car for not a lot of money and the racing was good, GN's, IROC's etc, not a ton of speed, but very good racing
