7/16ths connecting rod bolts ..

Good morning!! Are there any differences between Boron 7/16ths L88 and Zl1 bolts versus LS6 Borons?

Maybe a re-phrasing of the question is in order. Are all stock 7/16ths dimple connecting rod bolts "knurled" about a half inch below the head. I read somewhere that the LS6 bolts had this knurling and were stronger than the earlier ZL1 and L88 units.
True or Not?? That is the question.

Not true, the Boron Steel bolts are the strongest. They have a ground shank which is stronger than knurling.

Adding boron to steel alloys is an inexpensive and potentially dangerous method of achieving higher tensile strength. Boron is not allowed in either grade 5 or grade 8 fasteners according to SAE. Fasteners containing boron must be marked Gr 5.2 or 8.2 on diameters under 1-1/2". Cap screws containing boron are prone to stress-relaxation failure which can be increased when used in high temperature cyclic environments.

Proper knurling should not weaken the clamp load as long as the fillet radius (where head meets shank)is not damaged during the upset.

Thanks guys! I was under the impression that ALL 7/16ths dimple rod bolts were "Boron" types and then broken down further into GM "knurled" versus GM "non knurled".
