Guys,

my Z26 is already sold and tomorrow i have a look at a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix 4dr. Sedan with 175k mls, cuz i need a new daily driver.

What do you think about the car or rather the mileage?
There are any Problems with the 3.8 V6?

Thanks for your help!

Reliable as an anvil. If nuclear war occurred tomorrow, the only things left would be cockroaches and GM 3800s.

As long as it's had regular maintenance (ask for records), I would have zero issues with buying a 3.8 with those miles.

Thank you for your posting. I was watching the car today with my girlfriend and we will buy it. The seller goes down to $2600,00 for it - yay!

Here is the VIN: 1G2WP52K1VF285303

Carfax found 15 Records. Maybe anyone can do the carfax?

I will appreciate this!

The car has some failures, but nothing special. We need it maybe for 2 more years, then we can start with our plans hopefully.

That's a pic from the seller:

We need a pair of Taillights, some Wintertires - latest in October, a rear mirror and some cosmetic...

Oh man, my wife has a 2000 Grand Prix and it is not a very good car. Get used to putting in power window motors and regulators. Save yourself some time and buy the ones with a good long guarantee.

Jochen,

I have two of these cars, both coupes, both Supercharged GTPs. 3800's are great, but 4T60Es in the non-supercharged GTs had a 4th gear spline design flaw (not hardened properly) rendering the car a 3-speed when it fails, and it will eventually. Cuts the gas mileage in half, just windmills in 4th but 3rd is OK. A $38US part you have to drop the drivetrain to replace.

Also, if the trans fluid is dark/brown it is usually not because the trans needs to be serviced. Be prepared for a rebuild soon if it is. They are cheap as all get out in the US, resale is nil.

If you want to disable the DRLs but not the automatic headlights, unplug the voltage reducing diode in the DRL circuit. It is a large, finned object located on the outer wall on the left side under the dash. It is visible through the small access panel the you can see when the driver's door is open. If you unplug this diode, you will turn off the DRLs and not affect anything else. If you do not wish to have the automatic headlamps or DRLs active, simply pull the appropriate fuse in the fuse block located to the right of the glove box.

Congrats Jochen! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif Yeah those darned Daytime Running Lights <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/no.gif . The Europeans do NOT appreciate those. We took delivery on a U.S. market Volvo wagon back in '95 in Germany. We were constantly be "flashed" by the locals on the autobahn to TURN THOSE DARNED THINGS OFF!! Gate guards at the bases over there were none too pleased either till we figured out how to disable them! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/blush.gif

We've been stuck w/ factory DRL systems here in Canada since 1990 model cars!.
Most but not all vehicles switch the DRL's off when you apply the E-Brake but obviously a useless feature when driving..
Last weekend we took the family Caravan to see Shrek at the Drive-In and w/ all the mosquitoes had to keep the windows closed and periodically run the A/C..
I thought twice as I set the E-Brake just one click to shut the DRL's off being auto-trans vehicle E-Brakes often seize w/ seldom use..
