I have become quite a fan of the American Pickers show so I thought this story would be cool. I mentioned a while back in a collections thread I posted that I have a HUGE collection related to local history and my neighborhood. I have been going to estate sales for a few years and went to one today right by me in Cicero, IL. I usually never find dealer related items at these sales and if I do they are from the dealerships right in my neighborhood which I still find super cool. So I am looking in an attic of an ancient house that the family has been living in since at least 1929 according to my research. I see a pile of debris in a corner and I stir it up with a stick and I see a pot holder with some advertisement on it. I pick it up and I couldn't even believe it was a Nickey Chevrolet pot holder! I looked down and there was another one right in the same pile. The best part about this find was the price. 50 cents! The photo's of the item's are in all their dirty "as found" glory. I still have to wash them.

While we are on the subject, I also recently bought an original dealer decal for Nickey's successor, Keystone Chevrolet. I thought some would like to see what they looked like.

I agree; nice find, ..... but I'd probably hesitate to wash them. They don't look that bad now and I'd be afraid they might fade, shrink, ..... or (considering the age) even come apart.
Not meaning to be critical: just cautious.

HA! Guess what Dennis, you were right! I washed them and almost got sick when I saw the end result. They are not that bad, but one of them faded and both of them have freyed edges now. They are still cool but not as pristine as they were when I found them. I should have just hand washed them. The dirt was just superficial. Hey, I bought them for 50 cents. Easy come, easy go!

Interesting find.
'Dry Cleaning" may have worked?
Look at the address, it was prior to Nickey's move West to 4501 Irving Park Road.

I was bidding on that Keystone Dealer Sticker.
Here is an original picture I just got off eBay. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a79/StefanoBimbi/Nickey%20Stuff/1959NickeyPartsPickupTruck.jpg

Pretty expensive decal. Everytime I try and buy one of these they go nuts. I guess I will have to keep trying.

Here is some Nickey memorabilia from my collection. Everything is totally genuine, no reproductions whatsoever including the commonly reproduced decals.
