Well there is certainly a "First Time" for everything. We came across this 1969 Chevelle....What I believe to be a real SS396 1969 Chevelle without the Famous "L" on the trim tag.

The car has no docs, however it does have its original block and 12 bolt rear end.

Look!

Dan, is that "07D" for 1968 or 1969? Being such an early or late car may provide some input into the "L" mystique.

Don,

Yes...is a very late 1969 Chevelle. We did discuss this point.

Sheesh....while I'm certainly no huge believer in the 'L on the TT means SS' theory, one would hope to have a less 'distressed' vehicle with which to disprove the theorem <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif Very good detective work nonetheless, Inspector Vasic <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

Maybe the guy who accidently stamped the "L" on the documented non SS forgot to stamp this one! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif

Nice find Dan! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

That car was made one week before my Kansas car. Mine is 07E.

Very interesting find. a couple of things to note, no side marker light on the rear quarter, quarter chaged at some point? also the trim tag looks to be the early thin tag, all my examples, in the build range, appear to be a slightly larger tag used. The thin tag is mainly in oct 68 and this one would have been late 69 build year based on the fisher body number. The five digit code that is present on all the Kansas tags is also missing. If the VIN is available I'd like to get it to verify placement in my list, that may indicate other things to consider. Also, it is mentioned the original block is present, any pics of the engine code and convin? very interested in this but again a Kansas built SS without alot of documentation to support it, not saying it isn't possible, just still keeping an open mind. I'd love to get more details and history if possible, I can be reached at [email protected]. take care guys Andy

Did you get any pics of the Convin, and assembly code?
The trim tag almost looks to be loose at the right side rivet.
