COPO PETE
08-13-2010, 04:02 PM
One year ago today my car, truck and trailer were stolen. A day I wish never happened and one I wish would go away. They also stole my enthusiasm for the hobby I used to love so much, and have not raced at a track since.
Thanks to all on this board that really pulled together and supported me during that time. I really, really appreciate it.
Today, one year to the day, I have put the motor back in, as it was being repaired from the fun the Indians had with it. I hope to fire it this afternoon! So I'm hoping it will put a spark under my a$$, and get me enthused about the car again. It was nice to see it out of the barn again and in the shop.
To the cops, and government officials who did nothing to help me and to the Indians that stole it, phuck you all!
Peter
Glad to hear you haven't let them get the best of you Peter.
Looking forward too seeing you again & reading about you racing it again with your family.

Your state of mind is certainly understandable, given all you've been through Pete. But I for one hope you can regroup and find the excitement again. You and your family are some of the best folks in the hobby: you know what's REALLY important in life, and how to enjoy it the right way.
Maybe when you get behind the wheel again and feel the rumble in the seat-of-the-pants it'll put a smile on your face and all those bad memories will begin to fade.
Best of Luck Sir and we hope to see you again soon. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

I was just thinking about you and the car last night while watching an episode of "Cops" and thinking the same thing, they did NOTHING to help in this matter. Really shows you whose fingers are in whose pockets. Glad it is behind you and hope that once you hear it come to roar your opinion of the hobby is rekindled. I have said it MANY times before, the cars are not to blame for the attitudes around here nor the change in the hobby. It is the people and those people need to get off their high horses and get back to what this hobby is and always has been about, friendships and cars!

Great photo Pete & Pete. Pete - good luck getting your head back in the game. Can only imagine your anguish. I have had the system let me down when i was brought up understanding that it would be there for me. Its a real kick in the nuts <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/thumbsdown.gif. Your racing antics are an inspiration to us southerly North Americans. Keep us posted on your progress. Pixs wouldn't hurt either. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

Pete....
I am sure that the first time you fire up and turn a tire, some of the pain will come out and resurface. You have picked up the pieces and are putting things back together. I need for you to take that car out to the local strip and let 'er rip.
If it doesn't kill you, it will make you stronger!

Pete,
It could have turned out worse. Especially considering the lack of any form of support from the authorities. I know you had to pay a considerable amount to get your own car back but really your outcome seems like probably the best case scenario considering the other possible outcomes. It sucks when bad things happen to good people. But, keep in mind it's only a car, a special car, but just a car. I can relate, I've had a car stolen in the past and believe me it had a much worse outcome. It wasn't quite the caliber of this car but keep in mind it could have been worse.

Hang in there Pete. For what it's worth your 'COPO Shootout' MCR article was a huge inspiration to me back when I was just a student dreaming about COPO Chevelles....

Well, got the ol girl fired up and it actually moves itself. Took about two lbs in rust outta the exhaust pipes. Took it for a drive, but it is far from a power tune! Carb needs some serious work! Taking it to the track Thursday to play. Thanks for all your encouragement!

Great to hear the beast is once again seeing the light of day.
I know I can't offer the thrill of blasting her down the track, but I am sure there is a spot for you along with the sYc family at the upcoming MCACN show November 20-21.
I can also hold an indoor spot for your trailer.

Wow.... What a day. This is the first time I've had the car out, and were takiing it to the track and area we were at when everything was stolen. Talk about Dejavu! I put into my GPS where we were to go. Left West Lorne just like a year ago, leading the convoy of racers from both sides of the boarder. Just like a year ago... The day was sunny and warm, you know, the perfect summer day.... just like a year ago, and no, I'm not making this up. The GPS takes us right by the Indian reserve, and through the town where we met,and the money exchanged hands. I kept expecting to hear the Twilight Zone music! JJ calls me from the car behind and ask's.... "look familiar???"
Anywayz...... Got to the track wihout any problems.
Soon as I got there I unloaded the car, grabbed my helment and told the wife I was going to get this monkey of my back. My wife asks if I'm going to just drive it through, or full out. I told here, "Balls to the wall"
AnywaysI'M BACK 11.70 right off the trailer! Felt good and was good. We had a great day and even Owen made a new personal best for the COPO Nova.... 12.84 @108mph. This track just plain hooked!
Thanks to all for your encouragement. I'ts been a long year, but it is so good to be back in the saddle again!
Thanks you all!!
Peter
11.70 and 12.84...nice. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

Welcome back Pete! All you needed was to smell a little burning fuel and rubber and you are once again back. I cannot imagine what it was like driving through the reservation however. Wow!
