View Full Version : 69Z Carb Problem

My 69Z has never ran right since restoration. Finally swapped carbs to rule that out, with a different carb (3310) on it and it was a totally different car. Ran like a raped ape. The carb was restored by Holley before I bought the car in mid-restoration. I was told holley put on a new base plate and several other parts of the carb. I have changed the jets to the factory jetting, power valves seem good, nothing seems clogged, shot carb cleaner through every port and orifice.

With the original carb on, the car bogs over 4 grand when driving it, sitting in the driveway it revs as far as I'm willing to go with no breaking up. With a load on it really isn't drivable over half throttle. I plan on checking with Holley to see if they will fix it on their dime, its been several years since it was restored so that may be a trick. If that doesn't work out I will sind it to Eric.

Does anyone have any suggestions before I send it out a second time?

Yeah, DON'T send it back to Holley. As the original manufacturer you would think they would no what they are doing but that could not be further from the truth. I have had to fix a lot of their mistakes over the years and would not send a 1 barrel to them. Just cough up the money and have Eric redo it, it will be money well spent. Based on previous experience with Holley, they will never stand behind this after that much time. Likely the base plate and other parts they replaced are incorrect for your carb and are just sevice replacements.

Eric helped me tweak my original carb on my Z. Never ran better!
This guy really knows these carbs like you would not believe!
