No more Musclecar Enthusiast or other Amos titles

Got some compilation magazine today called Auto Enthusiast that is just a conglomeration of 75% ads and 25% random articles along with a letter saying this is all you get for your subscription since as of Oct 1st, Amos is no longer publishing Cars and Parts, Corvette Enthusiast, Muscle Car Enthusiast, Mopar Enthusaist, Pontiac Enthusaist, Mustang Enthusaist and Chevy Enthusiast.

Very sad since they were good magazines.

And knowing from past experience how the magazine publishing business works, I can pretty much say with certainty that the owners probably just mass emailed a hundred or so journalists and staff and told them they were fired at the same time they mailed this "new" magazine to their list of subscribers.

Print media is circling the drain. One of my long time scrips &quot;Offshore&quot; tried to reinvent as &quot;north east boating&quot; then tanked and handed the subscriptions over to &quot;Soundings&quot; what a drag.

That sucks. That really, really sucks. I really enjoyed that Musclecar Enthusiast Magazine because they would often run Dyno tests of rebuilt &amp; restored Musclecar engines and show what kind of power they really made. I think it was Dan Jensen that was involved with them and did several of the Dyno articles and they really made for a great read that will be missed. The Pontiac Enthusiast Mag was another good mag that I'll miss.

I'll miss Musclecar Enthusiast. I was very disappointed with new magazine and I'm sure the readers of the other titles are not really happy either with the new consolidated monthly. I guess I'm lucky.....my subscription expires next month.

Steve Statham was the editor of Musclecar Enthusiast and a former colleague of mine from my MuscleCar Review and Mopar Muscle days when I was a lowly tech and managing editor. He' a great guy and I hope he is doing OK.

The same goes for Jason Scott, the Pontiac Enthusiast editor. Another talented automotive journalist.

I got the same magazine in the mail too. Mostly advertisements. Liked the Arlen Vanke article, that is about it. Maybe the whole musclecar thing is cooling some. With the camaros leaving Carlise, the magazine thing and prices pretty much stagnant it is not like it used to be. Maybe it is time to collect silver or gold for awhile.

As a guy who earns his living in this biz (and I've done so since the mid eighties), let me tell you it's extremely painful -- not only from a financial perspective, but from a magazine guy point of view. I'm really saddened by the state of affairs in the publishing industry (and it's certainly not just Amos). For example, not too long ago Ford used a lot of my work by way of a syndication company I contract to. Yesterday, I discovered Ford has decided they no longer need the services of the syndication company. I just saw my earnings drop by another 25%. The biz has lost a huge number of talented folks, and I suspect there will be more to come. Anyone want to buy a Buick roller (cheap) or a very nice 572?

I noticed more than a year ago that Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords page count had been cut in half. Additionally, the quality of paper it was printed on took a sudden and steep nosedive. A combination of the economy and the 'net, I suppose.

It's too bad. The internet is a great resource, but I still prefer a magazine.

Ditto this...Pontiac Enth. almost always had some really good technical stuff that even a Bow-Tie guy could use. What a shame...

Oh man. That's why I received that magazine. I've been so busy that I'm a little backlogged in my reading, so I didn't have the chance to check it closely. That really is lousy, as I think I have quite a bit of my subscription left.

I just hope the other magazines I subscribe to keep going.....
