Depends on how complete it is. Is it just a block, short block, long block or a complete engine? What condition is it in? Original bore size? Any modifications? A lot more info is needed in order to give any kind of value.

i won't be getting it for a few days but will post pics when i get it. motor is complete, don't know if carb is correct and will let you guys know about the internals. motor was out of car since 1971, so the deceased man's widow said but she didn't know where the car was because she said her husband had about 30 vettes since the sixties and they were coming and going all the time. when i get the vin, anybody on this site have a l88 registry? maybe we can reunite!

Obviously the motor would be worth more if the car it belongs to is still around.

Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork. If the car has a tank sticker, that will add many $$$$ to the value. In many cases, the paperwork will double the value of the car. If the engine isn't original or the pad is decked, then paperwork is essential to pull values up on an L88. I can't stress the importance of paperwork; factory paperwork (POP, tank sheet, window sticker, shipper invoice) with an L88. Any of these items will enhance the value a bunch. Dealer paperwork really doesn't count as paperwork unless it has factory paperwork to support it.
Just my opinion.

I agree 100% with this. The motor could be worth as much as 50k if the car is still around and the owner of the car wants it bad enough. Imagine if the car has no factory paperwork and the original block surfaces? That would easily add 50k to maybe 100k to the value of an L88 corvette. The people that I know who are buyers want both, real paper and a real motor but most of the time will settle for one or the other as very few have both that are legit.

after i get motor secured, i'll try to find car.wife is pretty old and i;m acquiring motor from a friend of their's who doesn't realize the rarity of the motor. if it sells for silly money some good charities have to benefit. it is christmas soon so i think that is the good thing to do.

Not so sure some of you are reading the original message. He DOES NOT have the car. He is only getting the engine.
