In the Chevelle world, 1969 Baltimore cars specificaly, is it the norm to see the partial vin stamped on the top front pad ?
Based on a Jan JD block I have from a KC car, that one is stamped by the oil filter.
Did this vary from plant to plant, or early to late year build ?

Mike - my experience has been that for '69 it varied by plant. Within the year in a given plant, I could not say. I.e. I had a Kansas built 396 with partial VIN by oil filter. My two Baltimore 396s have their VINs topside on the head stamp pad.
My Balt built L78 has the VIN on the front pad.
Mike,
My black 69 SS is stamped on the front pad as are both of Grady's 69 Chevelles. Pretty sure Baltimore stamped them on the front pad. All the Kansas built cars that I know of were stamped by the oil filter. Of course, there are no guarantees on any of this.

I have had blocks from both plants and they were just as you described. Baltimore VIN was on the pad and Kansas VIN was down by the oil filter.
But, as Phil stated....never say never.

Ronnie, you can post the VIN in the CRG 1969 Orphan forum. That's a good start to find the car. Also, Kurt Sonen can document it.
