At B-J last weekend, they had a nice looking turquoise 62 Galaxie XL pulling a drag boat on a trailer. Both were sold together as one lot, and both boat and car were powered by Ford SOHC engines <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/shocked.gif The pair sold for $88K, including buyers premium. I thought that to be a real bargain, but perhaps I'm wrong....anyone know the going price on Ford SOHC engines these days?

I almost had that boat bought years ago for 15K. It is just like new. SOHC was probably worth 30K that was in the boat but the boat is worth maybe 3500.00

Did you see the '61 Starliner at the Pavilions with the SOHC?

As cool as that car may be I think that green Miura would have grabbed my attention a little more; I love those cars.

Rita, it was sure nice that Shaun started it up for us...then, the guy behind his car in the Max Wedge car had to do the same...only at Pavillions... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

Rita it was nice to finally meet you and Bill as well as others from this site.
Glad everyone enjoyed the "cammer" always a blast.

Value? A fresh running engine that's "real"
not put togather from parts is well worth $70,000
reproductions are $35.000 that's what was in the 62 XL but the boat's was real.

Shaun,

Thanks for the input. I was not aware that they were making repro Cammer motors! At any rate, even with the 62 Galaxie having a repro motor, I'd say that the Galaxie/boat combo at $88K was indeed a bargain.

Let me add my thanks to you for bringing your Starliner to the Pavillions that day. I had friends here from out of state, and I had mentioned your car to them, hoping that perhaps it would be in attendance. They were not disappointed <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/drool.gif Sorry we didn't get to hear it running.....maybe next year.

Hey Bill sorry I missed you, not suprising given the crowds.
That was a good buy on the car and boat
A company called Dove eng. & precision oil pumps have been reproing blocks, heads, and other items for awhile now,you have to do your due diligence when buying, A real cammer has specific oil drain backs in the block and heads.
The 61 Starliner has a 1966 vintage engine carb to pan.
Very immpressive internals when we had it apart!
Shaun.

I still think 88K was about all the money for those two. a light blue 62 Galaxie is not worth much and the boat is not worth much. So what is left is the two engines. I have a orig SOHC in my Fairlane but don't put the value of the engine at 70K. And if I were buying that entire setup to get one orig. engine I would expect some kind of a discount.

original SOHC engines trade hands in the 30's. John V is FE.com member and that is where they are discussed along with the new SOHC offerings. The auction was discussed at length and considered a pretty good deal but.... those members put some value on the Galaxie which I personally agree with Charley not much. 7K for the boat and car puts the Cammers where they would expect to be at a BJ auction.
