I was wondering if anyone on the site here has sold anything at this auction in the past and could you tell me about your experience. It's coming up in a couple of weeks and I am thinking of taking a Corvette I have up there to put it on the block. Mecum doesn't have an event close to me so I was thinking of trying this one as it's only 3 1/2 to 4 hours away from me.

I would appreciate your comments.

Thanks~

Sort of a circus in my opinion - but I've only been there once. It's a small time venue, the convention center was full of cars, but I could not tell which ones were there for the auction vs. just for sale vs. just for show. Lots of cars there from NY, lot of German stuff (Benz's, BMW's, Audi's, etc..). It was a nice walk though, saw an OG '69 Z that year, nice car.

That show steadily disappoints, not very well run. If you have a car of BJ or Mecum type quality or pricing, don't waste your time. I think most people go there becuse they are bored out of thier minds in the dead of winter. Can't say I blame them

Go every year. Always some nice cars there. Its worth the trip if you are within a 150 miles or so. Thornton and a few others always have some real nice cars there. Take the wife and we go with another couple. After the show you go to the Borgata or Bally's and eat their buffet. It's excellent. But as Sully says.....a good day out because of the winter cabin fever. ESPECIALLY the last 2 winters. You can even take a walk on the borad walk weather permitting. To me, worth the trip!

I don't believe the sell-through rates are nearly as good as some of the larger auction houses. A couple of years ago, they actually called me to solicit some of my cars for auction. I wouldn't expect too much but, you never know. Sometimes a great car at a bad auction brings lots of interest and money. Good luck!

The swap meet sucks. I remember when it used to be at the old convention center on the boardwalk. Thats when the show was killer!

Sammy, I hear you, but it ain't worth the trip off the island, The Verrazano bridge toll is almost half a tank of gas now on it's own. The swap meet is nothing but the finest in Chinese toolery

Yea we go every year for fun with my Son and we take the train from Cherry hill which is a lot of fun and it drops us off right at the convention center but i just had surgery on my foot so we prolly are not going this year,, I remember the old days when it was at the old convention center. It was a whole lot better then

We have a place in Brigantine - and we still aren't going! I like seeing Thornton's stuff, but even that is not worth the drive and the free weekend stay!

Well sold-out for Saturday anyway so guess I got to hold off till something else comes around. Too scared to do the BJ thing in Fla lol.

Make the trek to Mecum. You have KC and then Indy if your looking to sell this spring.

The couple we go with likes looking at the cars also. Not real strong car people so they think everything is nice which is ok with me. I like looking at that guys gas pumps too, what a display. Its only less than a 2 hour trip for us and the tolls are not real bad from where I live. Thats true Matt. The old Convention Center was like a mini Carlisle indoors years ago.

I used to sell my parts at the swap meet back when the show was on the boardwalk. It was the one swap meet each year that I always went home broke...no matter how many parts I sold !!! But I was young back then and it sure was worth it !!!

It is not what it used to be..that is for sure... but still a nice day out of the house....

I might go just because I am so stir crazy !!!!!

Did you buy that or sell it?

I went for the day, and was disappointed overall. The sell rate while I was watching was 20%ish, but I only watched actual bidding Saturday for a little over an hour. Met up with some friends from Philly which made the trip worth while.
