I found a 1970 Monte Carlo with a 402 4 Speed. No build sheet but the VIN's match on all the drivetrain.
M21's did not come in a Monte Carlo. Anyway I could find out from the dealership, or anybody out there know how to get documentationm, or verify if you could have special ordered the M21 instead of the M20?
I sent an Email to the dealership, and they were not much help.

NOT many dealerships are of any help. No records and really don't care!

Best way is to have someone who's VERY knowledgeable on stampings check it out. If it's an M21 and the CON VIN stamp is legit, you've got your answer.

Yeah, I noticed they are not much help. I was hoping that someone here may have some insight on how I could get the info..

Why try email when you can call?
Speak with the General Manager. Understand they're in the business of selling new cars, not looking for old docs. However, there may be an oldtimer there.
Another thing: Do you live nearby? I never had luck with my original selling dealership, so I drove 4 hours with the old jalopy and finally found a sympathetic person. Six months later, I had the docs for my car.

If the partial VIN is on the block and tranny then your answer should be simple. The Muncie stamp will start with a P then an 0 for 1970, then a letter and number for the assembly date, followed by one of three letters: A = m20 B = m21 C = m22
eg: P 0 23 B Muncie trans, 1970, February 23, M-21 close ratio 4 spd.
The partial VIN could read: 10Lxxxxxx 1 for Chevy, 0 for 1970, L for Los Angeles plant, last six of the VIN
Post the stamping info and we will help decipher.

I've spoke with their records person on the phone once, she was very nice but the short answer to your question are those records are long, long gone. She told me she gets "these type of phone calls often". Good luck with your search.

You will not get anywhere with Reedman They are under new ownership and didnt keep ant records anyway. BTW is the monte carlo Burgundy by any chance with a black vinyl top and black bucket seat interior??
I live a few miles from reedman, right before Toll Brothers bought Reedman I went thru a few older buildings " that rumored to have some paper work" only thing in there was old lifts and shop materials. My friends wife is Bruce Tolls secratary and she says there is microfische some where, its been 4 or 5 yrs and she could not find it. (I have offered her a pretty good buck to look every where) but nothing!! I know there is one original salesman from the late 60's that still works part time.Maybe try on the weekend to take a ride there if not to far. Good Luck

Your right, I sent an email and got one back saying that all the records went to the family.
1st off, I want to buy the car but not sure if it is for real yet. The car was not burgandy with a black top, it is triple green.
I live in Seattle, but if they were close, I would surely do that. I have been known to be more persausive in person.
P0T18B and 10B134769 is the stamp on the tranny. This equates to an M21 built in 18 december of 1969 and the VIN matches the car's VIN.
Owner does not have documentation, but the car is all original except the air cleaner, starter, water pump and carb.

Does anyone know if the Reedman dealership was a dealer that dealt with special order cars, and some back ground. I am more curious now than anything on the history of the dealership.

Yes.. Reedmans was huge back in the day. Most likely the largest dealership in the US (or at least that what they claimed) back them. They even had their own test track to test drive cars on that was off the street. They dealt in all kinds of rare special ordered cars back in the 60's and 70's..

Yes they did sell them, I know of a white and a orange 69 copo from there. My buddy has 2 68 L78 novas from there. And when I bought my Tahoe a few years back I test drove it on a little track. I am not sure if that is the same track as back then.

Reedman sold several well known LS6 Chevelles. Here are a couple of threads from past discussions regarding Reedman.

Hi,
My LS6 Chevelle came from Reedman Chevrolet as well. They sold a lot of high performance iron back in the day.

Was the test track an oval or a 1/4 mile strip, or both?

stole this image from there. 15 is the test track and it is an oval.

It does not show but the dealership is huge. It may be 1/2 mile from Rt 1 to maple ave and the dealership goes to the other side of maple another 1/4 mile. They even have their own 2 lane bridge for getting over maple ave..

This is correct for a 69 car. I am not sure when they changed.

The nice part about the later ones is that they just stick on, rather than a destructive set of holes for the tabs.
