WOW! I was there. That was the Heyday of Pro Street. I spent a ton of time at Rich Gebhardt's shop then. I guess I can say I take the blame for some of the paint designs & graphics that went on many of the cars he produced. Bob Northrop's Pro Tempo shows up in two of the clips. I recognized a bunch of the heavy-hitters in the P/S wars back then. Names like Matt & Debbie Hay, Rick & Loni Dobbertin, Rocky Robertson, Scott Sullivan, Rick Northrop from our area and Mike ???? with the red Celebrity Eurosport. Rich Gebhardt had his orange Beretta there that year too along with his brother-in-law, Jimmy Weishaar's Nova. Heck, I even saw the gorgeous White '33 Willys of Lil' John Buterra. I always loved that car.
And even funnier, the guy who posted the videos, "Monsterflake" is alive and well and building some wild, wild cars in St. Louis to this day. Visit "Creative Customs" sometime and meet one of the craziest and most talented guys on the planet.
Hey Bruce, .... Thanks for the trip back in time! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/BruceRocks.gif

I was there! I`d rather be "Blown than Injected" I remember it like it was yesterday.... The heat, the short shorts, the long tube sox`s, the skin, the Gear Drives, The Blowers, the Colors.
I had my Chevelle parked on the bottom edge of lake near the shade, boy it was hot! I even had my Chevelle pin-striped there that weekend. I parked next to the White "Blown" 1970 Chevelle in the first video. The second video shows one of my favorite 1970 Buick GS, it was also "Blown" and his plate read "Tuff GS". These were great days. Bruce this was wonderful of you to post. It`s always great to go back n time.
The other thrill was the mayhem that would take place at the hotels, Burn out after Burn out.....for hours. You could just watch all the smoke from each and every hotel in the area, it was wild!

I remember the red eurosport vr. That was actually the only one that I ever seen in person until last fall I found a 4dr in junkyard with all the special lower panels still in good shape.

Cool, Bruce! Made all the Indy's, but '77. Never got farther south than Springfield, though. Good fun, the Nats!

I had a shirt like that....ordered it from a car magazine in the early 80's. I don't think my mom was too happy about it.

Those were the days. I wonder what has become of those heavy hitters today? Did those cars survive? Where are they NOW?
Anyone know? The "MOF"

Can't say about ALL of them but Rick Northrop is building and racing Outlaw Sprint cars. Their shop is about three blocks from where I work. Rich Gebhardt is still building cars, but almost exclusively race cars now. Scott Sullivan is still around and active. Just read something about him in the past few months. Haven't heard anything about Dobbertin or Matt Hay in a long time.
The chassis on Dobbertin's Pontiac J-car was a masterpiece!

Awesome stuff! I never missed a SMN from 1977 on up to, I think 90-91. I saw my '69 B5 blue 440 GTX in the background. This was the annual "gotta be there" event. Duquoin, Indy, St. Louis...
Some great memories there but I was wondering...where's all the hot chicks? lol
Thanks for posting, Bruce.

Wouldn't it be cool to have a couple of the *STAR CARS* of the pro street movement at MCACN...if they are still around? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/headbang.gif

I had a t-shirt with a picture of little Beaver Cleaver in his Sunday best and his hair greased down for church. It said, "I (red heart) Beaver!" The girls I worked with at the hardware store loved it.

I did as well...except mine had "Injection is nice" (and the BDS logo) on the front by the pocket....and "I'd Rather be Blown"...on the back of the shirt. I used to get snide comments usually from oldr ladies and I'd then show them the front of the shirt and ask them where their mind was at <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif....

The front of my shirt looked like this. The worst part about it....I probably didn't even know what it REALLY meant. I was in my teens! <<<<<stupid

I NEVER see these tubbed poseur cars at ANY shows anymore. What happened to them all? Did they get updated? Restored? I know they have to be tucked away in someones garage!
