My transmisson Went on the Firebird-It always had a "scratchy" 2nd gear since Ive owned it,But other than that it shifted fine-A few Days ago I took the Car for a ride, Getting on the gas a few times,When it Grinded in 2nd then made a loud Whirring Noise then Boom-I was able to limp it home in 1st gear. I called a few shops that werent even interested in doing the work I wanted,BUT > I did get ahold of a Transmission Shop who took the time to Talk with me & See what route i wanted to Go-my plans are to Put them "ROCKCRUSHER" gears with a complete rebuild-With a SPARE M-20 I Picked Up a Few Years ago-only hitch is that its a small pin case-here are the prices I got from shop
ROCKCRUSHER GEARS-$625
TORQUELOCKSLIDERS-$125
FORKS-$55
SMALL PARTS KIT-$35
307 BEARING-$42
308 BEARING-$22
1 INCH CASE-$150 & THEY WANT TO KEEP MY CASE
ALL TOGETHER-WITH LABOR BALL PARKED AT -$1600
IM not a tranny guy-But Im on a budget-So My idea is to keep my "SPARE" M20 transmission-& Just have the transmission rebuilt thats already in the Car,because its a big pin case-that right there saves $150 & my case- Also I can get "ROCKCRUSHER" Gears for $512-And all the other parts needed for Cheaper-I JUST WOULD LIKE TO KNOW what parts are needed to to rebuild a muncie And what upgrade's are needed??Im in Buffalo,Ny- Most of these Transmission Shops are SHADY untrust worthy individuals, most of them will take your GOOD parts and tell you they were junk-then put inferior parts in your transmission's! Im just trying to get some Honest opinion's-I have been burned before and will NOT go through that Hassle again..

I don't know where in Western, NY you are, Hector, but I've heard good things about Rockland Standard Gear. They seems to have a very good handle (pun) on all things related to shifting a standard gear from the physical trans, clutch, gears, rebuilding, building and tech support. I have no experience myself in this outfit but if you're relatively local, maybe see what they're about?

Crash from the board here is very reasonable. I had him do a few for us in the past and we were more than happy.
I would buy 1 done from him and sell your 1 in the car and your spare to offset the cost like on ebay or something. I got $450 for a crusty 65 M21 on there as a core needing work and $480 for a 65 T10 that has a mouse nest in it with rusty gears. Fex Ex can them for like $45 each to make it reasonable.

Here is the Spare Tranny-It is a "325" Case-there are number's on it 824P153667 AND PU2[3]U4-i dont know what they decodes to-But inside is VERY clean-I was told it is a GOOD working unit-But Dont know how to tell-Im weary of leaving at a transmission shop-I have heard HORROR stories about tranny guys who keep all your good parts & Put CRAP in to your "REBUILD"-IT's harsh,But I Dont trust ANY shops in my local area..
