SCR14, now officially set

Unfortunately it has taken longer then I had hoped, but we finally have an agreement in place with a facility to host SCR14.

As announced earlier, it will be July 29, 2011 at RT 66 Raceway Park, Joliet, Il, one of the premier racing facilities in the US.

Because of logistics, as well as the ever increasing costs involved, we have decided to forgo the indoor portion of the reunion, and just focus on the outdoor portion of the event.

Tentative schedule is; the usual meet and greet Thursday at the host hotel (to be announced later), with racing, car show and cruise-in at the track on Friday.


For those wishing to makes some more passes, RT 66 will allow us leave our cars/trailers at the track Friday evening, making a few passes on Saturday.

<span style="color: #FF6666">Whether racing, showing, or just as a spectator, we hope everyone will continue to support the SCR. </span>

BTW, though we want to see as many &quot;supercars&quot; as possible at the reunion, this years event, including racing, is open to all members.

Also, anyone who is familiar with the Joliet area, please get with me, as we are looking for a hotel that has enough parking to accommodate several trailers, to serve as a host hotel.

This is great news, as the SCR is certainly a high point of the year for me.

I can't stress enough how nice this track is. Being able to utilize all they offer is an excellent opportunity.

A few of the details for SCR14 are still to be worked out, but we are getting there.

Because we truly want SCR14 to be “family reunion” type event, where club members and their family and friends can come and enjoy the day with us, the only fee charged on Friday will be by the track to race. Spectators, crew members, family, friends, etc all FREE. Show area and cruise-in parking, FREE.

Though there will be no pre-entry fees or entry forms needed this year, we would like to know who is coming, with what, and if racing or not.

First of all, thanks to everyone who helped in the search for a host hotel for SCR14, and sorry it has taken us so long, but good news, we now have one, the Hollywood Casino/Hotel, Joliet, IL.

Located in a secluded setting, near where interstates I-55 and I-80 meet, the hotel is very nice, tons of parking, lots of security, RV park, relative close to RT66, and of course, a casino.

One thing I need to point out, the hotel does not allow anyone under 21 to be a guest at the hotel. Anyone bringing children who need recommendations on where to stay feel free to holler at me and I will be glad to help.

Just thought I'd warn folks about the I-80 construction down around the race track. Check yer GPS's, and map out an alternate route if you plan on coming in on I-80. It's a nightmare right now.

If you're coming from the north, slice your way through downtown Joliet using the Route 53 (Historic Route 66) signs. Downtown Joliet is nearly vacant on a Saturday or Sunday, and very easy to pass through. Just watch for the Route 53 signs as it sort of zig-zags through downtown.

We were at the Chicagoland Speedway last week (right next door to the dragstrip) for the Nationwide race, and it's a very easy drive.

Also, if emergency parts are needed, there's a speed shop only about 10 minutes from the track called Winner's Circle in downtown Joliet. Very well stocked. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

Rt 66 Raceway (http://www.route66raceway.com/) is rolling out the <span style="color: #FF0000">red carpet</span> for us on the 29th, with special parking for racers, special parking for musclecars not racing, no fee for spectators or to just show your muscelcar and concession stand will be open most of the day.

RT 66 has gone out of their way to provide us with this opportunity to have the reunion at their facility, so I encourage everyone to attend, and bring a friend or two. ANYONE who has a musclecar is welcome to attend, and of course, encouraged to race. Lets make this an event to remember.

Several sponsors are helping, NickeyChicago (http://www.nickeychicago.net/) and MCACN (http://www.mcacn.com/) will be hosting the Thursday and Friday evening meet and greets, MK Insurance (http://www.mkinsuranceagency.com/) will have cold drinks on hand both at the parking lot and a the track on Friday.

As always, the event will be covered by journalists/photographers for various publications.

Although, I wasn't sure if I was going to make it either. I spun the harmonic balancer on my motor about 3 weeks ago. It wore the woodruff key and keyway down to nothing on the balancer. Luckily the damage on the crank was minimal. I ordered a Powerbond SFI rated balancer to replace the stock 8&quot; one, changed the front seal along with the oil and everything seems fine again......still runs good to 7k. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

In other words, I plan on making it if nothing else breaks between now and then!

Unfortunately Annie and I are also having to bow out this year. We were hoping to bring a customers LS6 but he and his wife came last week and picked it up. The Nova needs a healthy cleaning and no time to do it. On top of that Goose is getting his &quot;puberty trim&quot; done on Thursday morning and needs to be attended to for a couple of days. Wish we could make it but it is not working out.
