For years that was not illegal in Sweden. Now it is.
Many years ago I bought this old racecar about 500 miles from home. I needed it for parts, but was going to sell the rolling chassis to someone else when I had the parts off the car. When I looked at the VIN-tag I saw it was handstamped. We called the previous owner early Sunday morning. He had a party the night before so he wasnīt happy, but he told me he had bought a 1966 hardtop in Germany and put a 62-65 subframe on it. He also had a wrecked -67 with a Swedish title but the VIN-tag was missing, so he handstamped one.
Since we had travelled so far we didnīt want to come home emptyhanded.
I told the guy that bought the car from me about the handstamped tag, but he didnīt care.

About 20 years ago I purchased a stock '67 Chevelle SS from this Columbus, OH dealer (Arena)....bought it the same day they got it in. It was a nice car but I remember they also had a '67 Chevelle Malibu L79 there at the time as well. I didn't know what an L79 was all about in those days but looking back would almost take it over the BB considering how few exist.

I don't remember a "Tony" being around in those days but they were a much smaller operation and had more musclecars vs. general stuff they seem to have now. I also remember they had a nice '69 red Chevelle SS L78. I remember it because it had the liquid dispenser option for the tires....forget the actual name for this but learned something new that day.

<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/scholar.gif I am sorry, but anyone that hands out a bogus appraisal that can be taken to an insurance company for an "agreed upon" value policy is helping to perpetuate fraud. I don't care where you got your info, from the owner or his parents, you sign your name to a car that is not what you say and you are a crook. Let's not mince words.

<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/thumbsdown.gif (and not even a GOOD crook if you even looked at the car...Jeeesh) <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/bs.gif

The sellers response on the chevelle site

mr 4 speed, the "confidential" vin will be checked tomorrow...you know there isn't anything confidential these days stop being a sour old person and try to smile some. Also, so you may rest better, this vehicle has been titled in 2 previous owners with the same information so get over it. If anything illegal was done it was while the vehicle was in Jeff's neck of the woods because from what I can understand it was in North Carolina previously.

Les I ended the auction, my choice but it will be reposted in the near future.

All others, this vehicle was appraised IN PERSON at the appraisers location. Not via mail, email or by pictures. I can only be as good as the information I receive.

Chris, with all due respect, I have known Tony Arena for over 16 years. Yes, he is a used car salesman, but I would have no problem with giving him $75 bucks for an appraisal. He knows his cars, and he knows the market.
He has been buying and selling cars for a long time, and like any other used car salesman, let the buyer beware.
He tried having a big store with muscle cars and hi perf bikes, got a little overextended, and went back to his old location. He is well known in Columbus as a stand up guy.

This situation has gone from bad to worse, apparently the current owner may have been the one getting ripped off. The appraiser was worthless, I stand by my previous post.

People have to stop buying all these restored lawn ornaments. Look for survivor cars or just cars with repaints. Stop buying the frame off stuff with all the Chinese goods on them. Don't have to worry about tons of paper work if the car is not a frame off deal.
