I just pulled out the original front coil springs in my 70 chevelle. They had the original tags on them. The are red and have GC 3960686. Anyone know what these numbers mean? Was there different springs for small or big block cars?
Thanks

They used different springs, for different weighted cars in general.
Four door,two door,small block,big block,convertible.
GC callout suffix was used on many 1970-72 Chevelles w/various weights, but that particular spring number wasn't.
That's the brief early 1970 Big Block Heavy Duty front spring, that was only used only on the brand new 1970 Chevelle coupe./Convert.& Elcamino when equipped w/either Air Conditioning or a Big Block,or both.
It was soon superceded by spring #3960665,beginning with late 70/early 71 production, and still coded as their GC Heavy Duty ft.spring.

Hey Carmen,

Greg Roberts (aka NovaResearchProject) may be able to help you. He can be reached at questions@chevynova.org (mailto:questions@chevynova.org) . He made some up for me for my '70 Nova.

Are you doing a restoration on your '70 Chevelle?

Sam,

Thanks for the info. The car is being painted, so i am cleaing up from the firewall Forward. It is going to be a driver so it is not a full blown frame off restoration.

Sam,
Nothing special. Just a 1970 Chevelle SS 396. It is 48 green with white stripes and white interior. It is a 350 hp car with an automatic and A/C.

Cool Carmen,

What's not special about a '70 Chevelle SS. I like Forest Green on a '70 'velle. Can you post a few pix? Good luck.
