Have chance to purchase this rear. I am a bit out of the loop on Chevelle prices. It is a real KK code May dated 12 bolt...drum to drum, with original gears, posi, etc. It seems exceptionally clean and I would say the minimum that it is in nice used condition although it is supposed to be rebuilt...although it has been in dry storage for many years.

Any help on value would be appreciated....

Thank SYC !!!

so apparently it is a 4.11 ?? the ring gear has 411 and 37 9 stamped in it...also has C 6...I assume March 66?

What was the availability of the 4.10 gear? Would this have been only available in an L-78?? I was thinking possibly an L-79 and/or an El C. also???

Most likely an L78 rear end. Could have been used in L79 maybe. Don't forget, you could order any rear gear ratio behind any motor. The 12 bolt came behind anything over 300hp.

Alot of L79 cars had a 411 gear. L78's ued a 373 usually or a 410 gear.

Don,

Are you saying a 4.10 and 4.11 gear are different? Definitely not.

I would say the rear would be worth $1500-$2000 to someone looking for that code and date. Probably $750-$1200 for a quick sale.

A GM 4.10 gearset has a tooth count of 10-41. A lot of aftermarket "4.10" gear sets are actually 4.11's with a tooth count of 9-37.

exactly...I always saw 41 10 for the tooth count and thought they were all 4.10 gears in GM cars...although when I was a kid we always said 4.11 posi....I guess they changed from 4.11 to 4.10 after 66..????

and thanks for the responses....that is about what I thought the value was. It is ashame, because at first I was told it is an original KK 4.11 posi from a 69 Chevelle...I thought I had the holy grail...

This isn't '66 stuff but our L78 car has its original KK 4.10 rearend and the COPO has its KQ unit with 4.10s. I had it in the back of my head that the 4.11 gears were for ten bolts. Not sure exactly where I got that idea. I doubt you are going to find any '66 KQ rearends.

That is what I meant to type...I was told it was a 69 4.10 KQ rear at first before I ever saw it. My brain thinks faster than my fingers can type sometimes !!
