This past Friday night we finally had a nice, sunny and dry day. A group of friends and myself went up to a local cruise inn spot.. My buddy, who I work with, brought his 1968 Chevelle SS 396/325 HP car which is basically all original...

The car was his father's and his father was the original owner. His father passed away last fall and he inherited the car.. He is not very up on the whole original thing and initially told me he wanted to restore the entire car.. After Grady, Phil (Woj) and myself looked at it we basically talked him into leaving it alone and just detailing the heck out of it!!

Enjoy.... Rich

The paint and vinyl top are original..

The car even has the old trailer hitch assembly which was installed when the car was new... We told him to leave it there!!

Original dealer decal and US Navy parking decal. His dad was in the Navy when he bought the car new..

The interior is all original and in excellent shape..

Love the vintage S.W. tach...

Some interesting factory chalk markings in yellow behind the master cylinder.. We were unable to determine what it meant..

All the original smog equipment still in tact. The belt was removed from the pump years ago..

(Well, maybe just a little clean-up. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/wink.gif )

I love '68s.

----Nice original condition. Any 68-9-70 with the original shifter still intact must, by definition, have not been beaten on. That good clean-up mentioned would do wonders on his Dads old war-horse.
----And,,,Are those stereo-multiplex speakers??? The radio appears not to be so Im confused (as usual).....Bill S

Bill,

The car originally had an 8-track. The mom caught someone trying to steal it. But they thwarted the attempt. He says he still has it. Speakers/grilles appear original. Nice time capsule.

Could the yellow markings behind the master cylinder read "OK"?

Man I bet that car would clean up beautifully; I'm glad you were able to convince him to leave it alone.

For my education, could you get an SS 396 in '68 w/o power (disc) brakes?

Yes, power brakes was still a option for a Chevelle in 1968.....even on a Super Sport. 1969 was the first year that they were standard on a SS.

My '68 had drums F&R. Also a bench seat 4 speed with that same stick and 2-piece knob. Sure brings back memories.

Does this car have the Buick interior?

Thanks for the info. Drum brakes/non-power.....all the better to drag race with!!! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/3gears.gif

Bill, the odometer reads 105,000 and that is still the original shifter and non-rebuilt tranny...
