I dought this car is real but thought I would check anyway.I have a chance to buy a 69 4dr Bicayne auto 427/390.The guy has no paperwork.Where would the build sheet be and did GM ever offer this combo. It has a Turbo 400 but not a 12 bolt.
Is there any other way to tell if the car is real?
Thanks

Maybe the 10Bolt's been swapped in but the L36/M40 combo was available also the L72/425Hp too!.
Is it here in Canada also have you checked the build plant digit of the Vin?.
Besides being available for cars sold new in Canada, GM Vintage Services info packages are available for vehicles shipped new across the US/Canada border so lots of US delivered cars built at Canadian plants are included too!.

I thought the Biscaynes, Bel Airs and Impalas could be had with the 335 hp 427 and only the SS came with the 390 hp? Going by memory so I could be wrong. Maybe they were available as a special order.

I always enjoy your postings Zig!.
Have you confirmed if the car's Canadian built or delivered?.

And no special order Rick as L36 & L72 were both B-Body RPO's for '69..
A '69 B-Body Canadian Pontiac L72 car is what I've always been looking for, a few L36 cars do exist!.

Well.It turns out the car has a 12 bolt. The car is filthy and burried in the back of a garage. The motor and tranny are fresh but 5 years old and only driven a couple of miles before it was parked. The 427 insignias look as old as the car.It needs paint and brakes but it is a fairly solid car.The owner is convinced it's a # matching car but has no proof.I sent him the GM Historical form to fill out to see if it is Canadian.I think this thing may be real but I'm not sure if it's worth the investment.I've seen some pretty good deals go by on real 427 Biscaynes that are 2 drs.I don't know if anyone would want a 4 dr but it sure would be a rare car.I guess a killer deal would be 4-5 as it has to be worth that in parts. He wants 13 but he admitted to me he is having trouble selling it.Who knows. He may take 9 or 10.He has the original wheels as it has rally wheels on it now.Anyone know what size the wheels should be?I'm thinking maybe a 14 or 15 x 7.Oh.did I mention it has an engine tie down in the trunk that was not installed when the motor was done.It looks like a GM item not aftermarket. It is a cable. The owner has a mint C3 and 55 Chevy in his other garage. They are both show winners.

Possibly a police car without markings for upper ranks or undercover, or a pursuit car?

$ aside, the car sounds very C<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/naughty.gif<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/naughty.gifL!.

Have you got the Vin/Cowl tag info yet and confirmed the build plant?.
Some Canadian built cars have Rpo's, Police and Fleet #'s also other info on the Cowl tag and I've seen '69 B-Bodys w/ the L36 stamped..

Have you looked at engine #'s yet?.
Hopefully the fresh motor part of the story hasn't decked those away?.

If you're back checking #'s, may as well nab the rear axle tube info too!.
The engine mount tie down you're talking about is probably the update torque cable kit we've discussed here before?.

Thanks guys.I guess at one time it could have been some kind or officials car.It also had an add on trailer hitch. It's hard to get to any #s as the car is burried.I forgot to mention one small fact.It has no vin # under the windsheild! Not even a space cutout were the plate goes.Maybe that was a special for RCMP cars. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif.The VIN is 154699L10****,so it was built in Van Nuys.He does have the ownership.I should tell him it's stolen.Maybe he would give it to me for $100. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/naughty.gifThe guy drives an ice cream truck.I never knew those guys make good money. The owner had a bill for the rebuild and the motor was a nice bright Chevy orange. The trans also looked fresh.I guess that gives it some kind or value.I asked him if it was fast.He was honest enough to say it had highway gears and took a while to get going. It also had fresh exhaust with headers. The owner said he bought it off a collector.I believe most of what the guy said as he told me stuff most sellers wouldn't.I don't think in his mind he was lying about all numbers matching. He just didn't know and believed the guy he bought it off.Another thing was he had a used car package.I'm not sure if that means it is Canadian or it was imported and had been in Canada for a while. One funny thing was I said it would be a tough sale because it was a 4dr.He couldn't understand that. His 55 was a 4dr.It always kills me when I go to a show and see some Chevelle 4 dr and the owner has blown his brains out restoring the car.

Check the speedometer. Most police type full size cars I have seen had the 140 speedo in them (VERY valuable) and 2.73 or even 2.56 rear gears. The back of the speedo is usually marked as calibrated for police use.

The owner did tell me it had 2:56 gears.

sounds like a cool tuna boat

put a bubble gum light on the top and paint it in Mayberry RFD colors <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

$13k sound like the car should be DONE and to a high standard, IMHO anyway
