Just a question out of curiousity; if you completely restore a car to this level does the fact that it has under 3,000 original miles even matter?

Car has been around. I believe it is Billy Hahn's old car that he restored. Was discussed here on the Site a couple years ago. If a car has 300,000 or 3,000 miles, a frame up cancels all that. Again that is MO because what is left of the 3,000 mile car or a million mile car after a complete frame off/up??

It appears the car was stored outside so it probably needed a restoration, especially if the pitting on the engine pad and damage to the trim tag are any indication of its pre-restoration condition. To me mileage is insignificant based on what was required to bring it back. Great provenance and nicely equipped.

WOW!
Cool color combo
That seems like an awfully late production car to have the early headrests ...

There have been a few low mile 69Z's on e-bay of late.

I would MUCH rather have an ultra low mile restored 69Z than a 100k mile restored 69Z..especially when the photo docs and history of the car can be 100% documented by all the photos... and better yet, the original owner who is still around. I dont know how much more I would spend, but I would definitely pay more for this car....
..and the fact that this car grew up in the same neighborhood as me is even cooler yet!!!
I feel that the ZL-1 that I previously owned was worth more because the car was known by Camaro experts and enthusiasts since it was new, also the original owner title, never registered, ultra low mile status....
I put this car in the same category...even better since this car was never cut up to be a race car...
jmo....

----Well Sam,,,I generally agree with statements like 3000 or 300,000 miles, and lots of times that statement is correct. Im not sure about this case (havent seen the car), but with documented low-mile cars in general too many things can skew the history. Yes the car has been partially restored and more, but I would put a lot of value in all the original stuff that was left. Original interior is worth a ton to me personally. No way to duplicate that. Original ball-joints as stated in the add (if the add is correct) are very cool, as well.
----A frame up often cancels "all that" but sometimes a bunch of cool original stuff is left.......Bill S

I dont honestly think theres a stitch of original interior in that car. I like how he says he meticulously reproduced every item on the car to make like it was in 69 but that repro tag is a joke. Never had a plate on the front to begin with and the rear plate isnt even close to what a 69 pa tag looks like. Im no expert but wrong radiator cap and should have side terminal battery post on a late car shouldnt it?? I bet if i was there in person it wouldnt take long to pick it apart.

The car does have a great story and a very nice resoration. I would say it would be worth asking price if it looked like that and was a survivor.
But it is 'just' a low mile restored car. I would say the mileage, the documentaion and the story are with a premium over another beautifully restored 69 RS Z28.

Who cares about mileage when it is frame off restored? There is no difference now. Just my opinion.

I am sure you guys saw this car or at least read about this car a few years back. This car was pretty much discussed about all these things then. Matt, I agree with you. If a car is frame "offed" or frame "upped" you can throw the mileage out. But again...JMO.

Nice color and the red interior really pops!.
Each their own but sounds like it may be a shame it was ever resto'd?!
Can't help but wonder what it was like before...another survivor lost?.

my understanding was it was sitting outside for a looonng time.
I agree that a full resto essentially wipes out what is special about original patina. But since restoring my 18K mile Nova, I have to agree with Bill, that generally speaking, the car retains more of its original parts and the car itself needs less "messing with" to complete the restoration. Of course the car should only be restored if it HAS to be restored, i.e. already repainted.

Sam, your car was waaaaaaaaaaay better than this one IMO. I would like to know the guys name. I worked at Limerick Power Plant for a few years in that time frame myself. Never really liked full blown resto's much at all if at all possible. If you can get away with a real nice repaint and a good elbow grease frame and chassis clean up with some interior stitching I am real happy with that. Way more original with 100,000 miles on the clock than a 3-4,000 mile car would be with a frame up, total replacement. BUT again, JMO and I ain't changin!

What a beuty! Love the color combo! WOW!
But I agree 100% with some of the responses. Its been restored so the miles really mean nothing except for something fun to talk about. Plus he is obviously wanting a monster premium because of the miles. Sure it has some nice history. But the reality is, once restored its just another nicely restored Z and there is not a thing in the world wrong with that.
I always get a kick out of sellers that talk low miles on something that is showroom fresh. But I am sure he will get someone with big pocket book that will get caught up in this.

I doubt he gets any offers near what he wants.I think people are alot more TUNED IN these days. I will adnit it is a nice looking car in pictures.I too wish i could read the address on the old title. I would like to know where it was from. I grew up on front street and delaware ave and remember a few rare and cool camaros but do not remember see this one run. Id like to know what ever happened to the 67 L78 pace car camaro that ran its ass off and wanted to sell it for 7500 and we all thought he was crazy!

I think what would be cool is if this car is such a low mile car, the original motor is still at the original bore. It would represent something that is rare, and matches to me how the engine was found (or supposidly found). It would vindicate the mileage. That is hard to duplicate. I do think maybe there is a reason it has such low miles (like the engine was blown or the original owner never came back from vietnam, etc). It was a street raced car and we all know what can happen (plus a young kid owned it). Or the engine was taken out and put in another car.
The odometer looks correct (no white lines, so no sign of rollback). Generally you will see discoloration of numbers that were left in a certain position for years of sitting). My 4k mile hemi gtx has that (it sat outside in the midwest for a little while). I am sure this car rolled a little bit since restored, and I am not seeing any discoloration in any of the low numbers. Who ever buys this should have it roll forward a bit to see some of the lower 2 numbers start to look fresher.

Good luck getting that price or even $100K for that car. If it was original untouched it might bring top dollar, but in that condition it is just another nice 69 restored Z/28. I'm guessing take $110K off the $169K price. I see issues and things that are wrong.

Does anybody know if the story of the cross ram being delivered with the car is right and am I reading that the car was built with the steel cross ram hood from the factory? To me that would make it very special if it could be verified. The only car I thought was close to that story was the Carolina blue 69 Z/28 with the white stripes that went to the ground. This car would be special for that reason but $169k is allot of money now days.

$169,000 is good money for a COPO these days let alone a Z/28.

Did you see the green 69 COPO on team Camaro that was a drag car from day one for $85k?

This car did not come with a cross ram or steel c/r hood from the factory. If this were a factory option it would be designated on the window sticker, similiar to how a 67& 68 Z optioned with either the cowl plenum, headers or both were identified.
As far as the added value of low mileage on a restored car brings (for me)I would say it really depends on the condition prior to the resto and what "orig" parts could be reused. As I pointed out before if the pitted engine pad and damaged trim tag are any indication of the condition of the car prior to resto I doubt I would pay a "premium". To me a premium on a restored low mileage car should be associated with what could be reused and original to the car. Orig sheetmetal, components(shock, smog, tires, interior, chrome...) I would want to see before, during and after.
Correctly restored cars are worth a premium, but the low mileage premium has many variables.
Remember the no mileage 57 Plymouth that was buried and opened recently...What premium would you attach to that car due to its mileage and what could be reused when restoring.....
