Well, let me jump in on this Pontiac forum. My first two cars were both Pontiacs - 60 Parisienne four door hardtop and then a 63 Parisienne convertible. When I got back in the hobby in the 1990's I again went the Pontiac route. Here's some pics of the ones I had during those years.

Our 1975 Firebird Espirt that my Gramma Rose bought new at Ruckle Pontiac in Yonkers, NY in Sept 1975. It has 79,000 miles on it now. Unrestored other than the paint job I had done back in 1990. My 10-year old son just rebuilt the original 350 engine last month:

Yeah, a SD would be nice but it's a 425A/4 speed. PHS docs and still has the original motor.

Charley, I'd hate to separate the pair due to they're both made and shipped on the same day. A true his(manual)and her's(auto) pair that where ordered the same all the way down to the hood decal(less trans options). I am not aware of another pair in any color option made on the same day but not to say one doesn't exist?

LOL. You're right. I don't consider a car truly "my own" until I have taken it apart and somehow injured myself and/or bled while putting it back together.

When my 10-year old son was putting together the engine in his Great Grandmother's 75 Firebird, he got a bloody nose (still don't know how he managed that one) and bled all over the inside of the engine. I congratulated him, saying: Congrats, you're now officially a mechanic!" He laughed and kept on working. (tough kid)

Bill,If i ever thought I would get anyones attension fast I knew it would be yours!! I know you also have a love for these ocean liners. It was sold new in Pa 40 miles from me even thou I drove to Connecticut for it.Original Nightwatch Blue with parchment gut and roof. Ive got the original buildsheet from under the seat and it was delivered with a 4 barrell but the trips and the HO manifolds are there and look to have been there for a long time. The owner that I got it from Died and thought it came with trips but they were there when he bought the car years ago.The 4spd is original along with the 342 gears. Cool options,ps,wood wheel,am-fm,reverb,8 lugs, rally gauges with tachometer, soft ray glass and the hazard flasher. It came with a few more options also.Got a killer body on it and it runs awesome. I just took my girl out in it tonight and punched it on a roll and it broke the tires loose like no tomorrow and I flat shifted second and I tought she was going to faint. Runs pretty hard for a big tank.I will post a few more pics in a couple days.

What an awesome car Don. Fully deserving of the GR-RRR plate up front. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

Pontiac just had so many cool performance cars across their lineup! Chevrolet was the only other GM division with as many to choose from. It's no wonder that in 1965, Motor Trend couldn't decide whether to give their 1965 Car Of The Year Award to the GTO, 2+2, Grand Prix, or Bonneville, so they gave it to the entire Pontiac Motor Division.

Here's an 8-lug wheel on display, and a big ol' wagon, with a 421 under the hood. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

njsteve

Charley Lillard
07-24-2011, 04:09 PM
Crap..As I recall the cars came with a extra piece to adapt to a balancer...Somebody must have a pic.

olredalert
07-24-2011, 04:27 PM
-----Steve,,,Most tire stores and garages back in 8-lug days had an adapter laying around somewhere. The hold-down for the spare was supposed to be useable for that purpose but I have never figured out how!

-----Don,,,Anyone who has on ounce of performance in their soul would change out the log manifolds for the HO manifolds on Pontiacs from this era. Pontiacs log manifolds would have to be the most restrictive manifolds ever cast. Those HO manifolds and just a bit of headwork and a mild cam will make a standard 421 stand up and roar......Bill S

Most tire shops had a "Volkswagen" adapter which is a direct bolt set up. The hold down plate in the trunk is for use on the 40/40 tire changing machines..... the hold down plate can also be used when using a bubble balancer. An on the car balancer is the best way to balance 8 lugs. The 8 lugs on my '67 GP are way out of balance...... I'm going to try and balance the whole wheel/drum/tire assy on a spin balancer..

Check this survivor out from the cruise night in Hamilton NJ, last night. 62 Pontiac 421/405, 4-speed. Original paint. Neat car. It was used as the tow vehicle for a second Super Duty 62. Both this car and the SD race car are owned by the same guy.

The guy with the two 62's also has a red 73 SD Trans Am (which of course he doesn't want to get rid of). <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/mad.gif

Wow, that 62 ROCKS! Hope its at Norwalk for me to drool over?

You'll find one Steve, Good things take time you know! It took me over four years before I had even a chance at one of my Brewster cars.
Best of luck with your search, Brew

I think he did say he was going to Norwalk. Don't know what he is bringing. He was a nice guy to talk with. It would be amazing if he brought both 62s and set them up as the tow car and the race car.

He bought both cars as a package deal when he finally got the original owner to sell them. The tow car still has the 1971 inspection sticker in the window. That was the last time they were driven. I think he said it took him 10 years of negotiations to convince the owner to sell the pair. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif

Will be keeping my eyes open know matter what! I heard there might be a few late model super duties attending even with the calender change for the reunion.

Due to scheduling conflicts the 421 SUPER DUTY REUNION
presented by PHS automotive services, inc has been re-scheduled for the 2012 event.
