Had one in the mid 80's, loved that car! It was a pretty basic W-30... auto, a/c and with a one legger rear. Car had around 80K orig miles and it ran very strong. Sitting at a stop light one afternoon I was rear-ended, V'd the rear bumper and deck lid, buckled the left quarter and damaged the rear body panel as well as some front end damage from me hitting the car in front of me. Made me sick! I sold it as is knowing it could never be the same.

The Nordic Blue is mine, automatic, almost every factory option. The Bittersweet car belongs to a friend and is a 4-speed. Sorry if these pics are too big, not sure how to shrink the.

Would love to see your car as well! Let me see if I can guide you through posting a photo... hit the reply button at the bottom of your post (or any post your replying to), when the post form pops up hit the blue highlighted 'File Manager' below the post box and to the right of Post Options, from there choose your photo(s) from your computer, then click the 'add file' button after each photo, then select the 'done adding files' button, then submit your post.

I hear ya... back then it was my daily driver for several months until that happened.

Steve, that shade of green was actually used by all 4 divisions in 1972. Oldsmobile called it Radiant Green, Pontiac called it Julep Green, Buick called it Heritage Green, and Chevrolet called it Spring Green. I just saw a 72 Buick GS in Heritage Green at a car show last week, and a 72 Firebird in Julep Green at another show.

Some people call this color "Scope Green" after the famous mouthwash. Some people love it, some people hate it. I actually like it!

Here's some more old photos of the '71 I had... before the damage, after the damage and the last photo is from the 1989 Muscle Car Shootout/Car Show at Sacramento Raceway where I saw the car repaired and repainted. The owner added a wing on the deck lid as well. Was glad to see it again all fixed up!

Now I don't want to post my 1971 W-30 convt, yours is much nicer than mine. It is a three color car like my 70. Very nice. Is your car on Paul Martins list of w-30 convts? I have not figured out how to post a higher resolution picture at lower resolution. I did try to post mine several times.

Hello Lee,

I know It's on my list : )

It's been fluffed and repainted once, but it's mostly unrestored.

Full owner history, of a 37,000 original mile car. Orig. Docs, original top and interior.

You can see it in person at MCACN.

Please post your pics when you figure out how to do it!

LeeP
10-13-2011, 03:07 AM
I look forward to seeing the car and meeting you. I will be bringing my 1970 442 w-30 convt to MCACN so we will have both years covered and Mark is bringing his newly acquired 1969 Black w-30 convt 4 speed. We just need a 1972 and we will have a good selection covered. I sold my x vin 72 4 speed convt many years ago but probably should have kept it.

BTW I love your color combination..

Ed V. Just cleaned out the fridge at my shop, yesterday and not in a positive way.

Most of the storage racks we use in the shop as well as many of the NOS parts we have in stock came from Ed.

I was just driving through my neighborhood and came upon, what appeared to be, a yellow / black 1971 442 W30 convertible. It had the W27 rearend installed and it sounded pretty nice. I say it appeared to be a 442 only because it didn't have the rear bumper cut outs for the trumpet exhaust tips; I suspect it's a clone but, I'm no expert.

Stefano
11-12-2011, 11:04 PM
Dave,

All 442's '70-'72 should have the special bumper with exhaust cut outs. The W27 rear was an option in 1970 only and had a 12 bolt cover. There was also a cover only available for both the 12 bolt for 1970 and 10 bolt for 1971, from the dealer.

I think there were some low-po '72s that didn't receive the notched rear bumper. :twocents:

I don't know the exact conditions, but our new '72 442 didn't have a notched rear bumper, but it was a 350 cubic inch motor.
I bought a notched rear bumper from the Olds dealer and installed it in my youth.
