I have been trying to buy this 1967 Plymouth Belvedere 426 street hemi 4 speed for 13 years(one of four that fell thru the ordering cracks back in the day) In 1967 the plymouth belvedere 1 didnt have an option for a 426 street hemi. Well last friday I got the chance of a life time. The car is ALL original 31,xxx miles. The interior and paint look like new(under all that dust) Car was purchased from original owners brother(original owner died in 75 in a car wreck). When I purchased the car I asked about any other documents besides the title?? He said sorry we dont have any well I was kinda disappointed but it is a rare car and in incredible shape. On my way to the truck I opened up glove box of car on trailer and there was a stack of papers and a plastic bag.In the bag was original broadcast sheet, order form, manuals, old registrations, etc. I was on cloud nine!!!! Then today when looking over car it still has the factory warranty card on core support WOW! Here are some pics and a video enjoy

As time passes more and more these kinds of finds are becoming history and it really helps the thought of finding my own barn find when I still can read about these. Awesome find and thanks for sharing it here. Post pictures of the car during your clean up phase and maybe show some detail shots of interesting items you find on the car.

His mother passed away this spring that he was the care taker for and he was not feeling like he was 13yrs ago. I think reality set in he was never going to do anything with it. He inherited it and let it sit because of emotional circumstances after his brother passing.

Huh all-be-darned...Hilbert is 5 miles from me, have a car buddy that's lived there all his life and probably knew of the car...been to Hilbert many times in the last 15 year but can't quite picture where those photos were taken. Got a couple drag racing buddies in St. Nazianz too...not too much going on there.

No LS1 in this old girl. Car was at last house on right when headed to chilton out of hilbert. People knew about car that is how I stumbled acrossed it 13yrs ago. Stopped at pethans trailer and car sales. I asked about any old cars laying around and he said"only one I know of has a hemi in it but it is an old sedan car"!!!! It took me a couple trips to hilbert to finally run a crossed owner.

The basic story is that Chrysler pulled the Hemi from the option list in 1967 for all but the R/T, GTX. and Charger models (and the specal run of BelvedereII and Coronet Race Hemis). You should not have been able to order a lower line Belvedere or Coronet with a Hemi, yet some were ordered and built anyway. There are no known existing factory production records in existance to verify exactly how many were originally built, only records of how many have surfaced over the years. This is the 4th known 67 Hemi BelvedereI (RL21J7XXXX) to have surfaced so far, hence there are now "4 known to exist". There is one yellow 4 speed (the Judy Lilly race car) one dark blue 4 speed (currently being cut up into a race car ) another medium blue automatic being restored, and now this beauty! That makes three 4 speeds and one automatic known to exist.
Great find & follow up.
Looks as clean and unmolested as you could ever hope for, after 44 years.
Good for you for being so persistant and sharing it with us.

To the best of my knowledge, the black wrinkle finish rocker arm covers didn't reach production until 1970....earlier cars had chrome covers. So, the orig owner must have changed those out at some point. Not like that is much of a distraction <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/worship.gif

Those are the correct valve covers for that car. All the street hemis from 66 to 71 had the black wrinkle finish valve covers. Those are right for that year, as they have the correct style, slide-on, oil cap with the pcv fitting on the passenger side, rear and the slide-on vented oil cap on the driver's side. The 70 and 71 valve covers have a large grommet with a push-in, vent cannister in that position, and ran a stand-alone pcv and a screw-in, oil cap on the driver's side. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

I believe my wife would echo a similar sentiment about me.
Maybe I was thinking of the air cleaners....the 66-68 cars had chrome ones, and the 69 and newer had non-chrome oval ones??? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif

what a cool car. I am curious if it got the same frame reinforcements the gtx got, considering its a 4spd (autos did not get). also the 4spd gtx's for 67 were forced to have front disk brakes and get a dana. I wonder if that rule applied on these rare cars.
valve covers are original, no doubt. don't be suprised if you find orange paint marks on them from painted battery cable laid on them, stuff like that. someone told me about that on my car.
love the color too. thats a keeper.

Well today we decided to see if we could get it running. Local guy with hemi knowledge helped me out. He checked valves, pulled dist, cleaned points, added fresh fuel, etc. We had it running in less then 2 hour it runs like a top. Tomorrow I am going to tackle the brakes(just need bleed)

I thought there was a '67 black convertible 426/4sp running around? Maybe through Legendary. I knew the owner at the time as he had a few cars, and I said to him I "thought" it was a '66 as '67 would be the GTX's. He said no, this IS A '67. He had this ,Black on black '67 Hemi - 4sp gold int. car. '70 SS 395/375 convertible Chevelle, red and black. '69 L78- 4sp, bench seat green Nova. Ford Sunliner, and a few others.
