The U.S. Geological Survey reported a magnitude 5.9 earthquake in Virginia, centered about 83 miles southwest of Washington, DC, on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at 1:51 p.m. EDT.
I hope everyone one is OK...

An after shock of 2.3 in Altamont NY was recorded. We felt it at the factory I work at one town over. Thank god I wasn't crawling around on the machines we build.

Family and friends in Maryland have called me, they seem fine, but shaken.
My daughter's best friend just returned from Japan as part of her studies abroad. She arrived there about a month after the disaster there in Japan.
She posted up today on FB she finds it ironic to experience her first earthquake while sitting on her porch in Maryland.
If none of this makes sense, I'm still under the influence of morphene.

I'm probably about 35 miles from the center of the quake, sitting at my desk it felt like I was riding a hobby horse for a minute there!!!

I was working on a customers 70 demon 383 dual 4's. it was running and i was under the hood and felt everything shaking. ODD IN DEED feeling. I knew the car could not be shaking everything. I looked over at one of my techs and he mentioned the other guy shaking everything. I seen the truck he was working on rocking on the lift Ten minute later we heard of the quake. 58-1/2 years old and never felt a quake before. My computer monitor moved. I thought there was a 500 lb. person coming through my door or something was landing on my roof. Lasted for about 10-12 seconds. Scary for an old guy! GEEZE!

5.8 is a pretty decent sized quake. Glad everyone is okay!

The wife was at the computer and immediately noticed her chair shaking, here in Jersey. I didn't feel a thing.
She then said: "That's the first earthquake I have ever experienced."
I replied: "You mean our honeymoon doesn't count?"
She was was only mildly amused. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif

These things can be un-nerving especially the aftershocks. I live in southern California and they just installed signs on a street behind my house calling it a tsunami evacuation corroder. That scares me even more.

5.6 on the Colorado-New Mexico border last night also. I grew up in the high desert of California and we used to get them all the time. They are wierd, and you never get used to them!

Some are saying they felt the ground shake here in Janesville, WI. I don't know as I was working out of town.

Some areas here felt it and others didn't. I heard the quake originated from a small cemetery in Virginia and was thought to be caused by Founding Fathers spinning in their graves.
