View Full Version : Musclecar and Corvette Nationals...MCACN

On the off chance that new people have not seen the MCACN section, I'm posting here.
If you are into Musclecars you would love this show. You just need to get to Chicago the weekend before Thanksgiving. If you are far away but in a large city you should be able to get a non stop flight into O'Hare. From there it is a 5 minute cab ride to the show and host hotels. I think we now have 14 or 15 confirmed ZL1's attending including one of every color made. There has never been that many ZL1's together since they were built.Helen Gibb and her daughter Nancy will be there with the ZL1's that Helen's husband Fred convinced Chevrolet to build. Chevrolet will also have a 2012 ZL1 there.
If you are a collector or know of someone wanting to acquire a rare musclecar, what better place to come to see a selection of the worlds best muscle all in one place. Maybe talk someone into selling their car or maybe they can tell you where to find a good one. Maybe they can tell you what not to buy. This show really will be a treat...Hope to see you there.

I hate peer pressure. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif
I've been spending the weekend upgrading the entire brake system on my 22 year old, Pace trailer, A.K.A. The Rat-Trailer.
Just wait til you see it.
Over the years I've been pulled over several times by the police after they thought I was using it to smuggle illegal aliens across state lines.
It's THAT ugly. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/naughty.gif

Just to echo Charley's thoughts above, the number and quality of cars at this event is truly remarkable. Anyone with a hint of fossil fuel in their blood will be in overload the first time they attend.
But maybe the best part for many of us is the fact that THIS event has become another Reunion of sorts. One of the very few times each year we get to see the friends we've made through our association with this site. Great People; Great Times, ............ and a TON of Fantastic Cars!
Don't miss this show! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/worship.gif

I know many of us are working our behinds off getting cars ready for this yearly show that just as Dennis says has become a yearly reunion for all of us that are so passionate about this Muscle Car Hobby. I look forward to seeing you all there once again. It just keeps getting better and better!

<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gifThis show is definetly worth the trip from everywhere. Having a round trip flight from New York and fours in the car to and from airport to attend was time well spent to see the absolute best collection of muscle cars anywhere. I would suggest that you make plans to stay for both days, you can't see all the cars and everyone in six hours.
<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gifAnd Darren bought me and Mike some great hot dogs for lunch. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/headbang.gif

I'll be there - can't wait!!!
Last year was the best car show I've ever been to. If you like all types of cars, this is the place to be.
The Hurst Olds display was amazing last year, there's always the Snake Pit for Shelbys, too.

Yes it is going to be another one for the books. My current count shows that the 70 L78 Camaro display is fully booked with 10 cars, maybe more???
As with the ZL1 display this will likely be the largest gathering ever of these rare 1 of 600 built cars where only a fraction of them are known to still exist today.
Looking forward to a great weekend.

Fantastic!!!! Lee's is on many guys punch list and is fresh off of resto and being a best in class winner at the Olds Nationals!!!!
Thanks for the nice comment. After 30+ years of ownership it will be nice to take my car to the premier muscle car event in the country.
It will first be at the November SEMA Las Vegas show. I was invited to be a part of the Legendary Interior Booth. The car will next go to Colorado Level One Restoration for some final spit shine and tweeks for the MCACN show. I am pretty excited because it is so different than the Olds Nationals. I expect to have the judges look at many of the fine details of the restoration. I hope the car makes the grade. If not it will still be fun to make some new friends and see some old ones too.

Your entry should include two passes for all three days of the show. (Friday's move-in day passes are different than the daily tickets.) At least that's how it worked in past years. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

great news for me today! the original owner of my car is coming saturday to hang out with the car in the MCACN vintage un-restored display. he said the car was one of the fastest road car west of madison wisconsin, and he never lost a race (he was a professional race car driver). the reason the paint is rubbed off on the front edge of the endura bumper is he would give his challenger a 'beer head start' as they raced bar to bar. He would come up from behind and bump the car when he caught them. He knows alot about hult chevrolet and the yenkos there in 69. He raced with Cale Yarboro and I found his international racing license in camaro when I first got the car. I am giving him that back when he comes saturday. Really looking forward to the show now more than ever!

Awesome show,
Had a sneak peak today in the show and the cars were so nice it is making me dizzy trying to figure out what to look at first!
There is something for every Gm,Ford and Mopar fan.
Went to the Double Tree Hotel greet and meet party and met Bob + Vicki Ashton,Charlie,Dennis and also met other fellow Canucks from Canada that drove from Quebec.
Enjoyed the free Corona Beers.
Just a great Friday night.
Tomorrow should be much better. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/youguysrock.gif

I'm biased because I am part of the show but I did have my 1100 mile 70 Z28 judged and it is beneficial to both parties. You might learn more about your car and the judges learn from looking at low mile examples. They will spend hours on your car. I do think that Certificate will mean something when it comes time to sell it.

I never get tired of hearing you say it but certainly laugh at myself every year saying it cannot be done only to be blown away the next year upon arriving. Best indoor show in the country bar none and the word has spread as I hear from many of my customers that are on both coasts telling me they hear about it on the streets all the time. Just about all the basic information, hotel deals with direct booking links and more are on our website, Jeff; www.mcacn.com (http://www.mcacn.com)
If you are showing a car, we have several lots (that we pay for) for trailer and rig parking, with our staff camped out from Thursday to Monday.
If you need any additional info, e-mail me at
[email protected] or call 586-549-5291.
ALSO, if you want a FREE copy of our new 64 page magazine (at shows we attend in August or mailing in October) and would like regular e-mail updates, please sign up on our website. I also do updates and show cars that will be at the show nearly every day on our facebook page.
I am sure there are plenty of members here who can also pitch in with their own thoughts and idea's. Hope to see you there!

Exactly what Boss302 said! I say the same thing every year and every year they top themselves. One year all the ZL1 Camaros and it was said it couldn't be topped then the come up with 7 Firebird Trans Am convertibles. Ok, I was wrong. Best indoor show in the world as far as many of us are concerned not too mention one of the only shows left where you can get together with the whole gang of fellow members in one place. Talked to Eddie Montini yesterday and he mentioned they have a spot for one more car on the Reliable load that is heading to MCACN from the Phoenix area. It is always good to have a full load, both financially and for set up and return, so if you are "on the fence" about joining and need a nudge, let's do it! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

The $5 off discount pre-sale tickets are available now directly though our website and also at Nickey in St. Charles, IL and Bill Stasek Chevrolet in Wheeling, IL.
Since our online ticket arrangement is far more efficient, there is no discount coupon in the new magazine.
With modern technology, we can quickly <span style="font-style: italic">scan </span>the online tickets to get people into the show much faster and avoid the back ups in the lobby when the show opens.
Let the countdown begin...
Thanks!

We left NJ today at 10 am. We got 130 miles and engine in my Suburban started smoking out the exhaust. Turned around and headed back home. The 6.5 diesel exploded 30 miles from home, luckily at my passenger's exit, 2 miles from his house. Had the Suburban towed to his driveway while my buddy's wife picked him up and drove him back to my home town where another buddy loaned us his brand new 2013 diesel Dodge. He then drove back to get me and the trailer. We were back on the road at 5:00 PM. It's now midnight and we are at Ohio border.
Is there a bad luck trophy contest? Because I think I'm in the running. This is one very expensive trip. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/frown.gif

What I need is for Kwhizz to install a ZL1 engine in my Suburban.
Looks like it was the head gasket. Blew the radiator catch tank cap off and and the rest of the coolant went out the exhaust pipe in a white mushroom cloud.

Was to leave with the car Thursday but had to cancel 3 weeks ago. Seems everyone wanted to make settlement on their new homes in November. After the mortgage meltdown, I couldn't miss this opportunity to make up some ground. 37 years as a REALTOR, 2007-11 was terrible.
Oh well, next year I'll make plans again for MCACN.

We had just pulled out of the Corvette & MuscleCar Nationals last night, as we were vending there. We were first in line at the stoplight (red) and watching some cars that had pulled out via a different door, as they were in the cross traffic. Then low and behold, the Sox & Martin Pro Stock Duster (was in the show) was in the turn lane - and then turned - driving right in front of us - to head toward the trailer I assume. In all it's noisy-ness (is that a word?) anyway, way way cool. Pitch black out other than a few street lights, and the roar of the open exhaust Hemi Red-White-Blue Sox & Martin car. I'll picture it in my mind forever! WAY COOL end to a great weekend...
Thanks to all that brought cars and participated in the show, it was a treat to view. I wish I was there for the "removal" of the vehicles. WOW.......

Given the fact that the Muscle car is credited with being born in 64 ( great debate here)I am sure the 50th anniversary will bring great things to MCACN. I am curious though how the class of 74 will celebrate the Catalytic Converter and 85 MPH speedometer.

Hopefully Pontiac will be well-represented, for obvious reasons. I see a string of high-quality GTOs from 64-74...and as many 74 SD T/As as the place will hold.

Indeed, we will be hosting a special gathering of GTO's in recognition of this significant car and anniversary. I have several VERY fine examples lined up already, along with some special guests. Again, this group will be created for <span style="font-style: italic">quality,</span> not quantity, so if you have a significant example of a 1964-1974 GTO and would like to join us, please get a hold of me asap. It is not too early...planning for the 2014 show is already well underway.
As for '74, although we welcome prime examples of muscle from the 1974 model year, (think G.S. Stage 1, Super Duty etc), we are not planning on a "Class of '74" special display. We are, however...planning on stepping back to the year 1969 to celebrate what is obviously a much better year, Muscle Car wise. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/scholar.gif

Bob, a 1969 display would be very cool! I feel the 1969 model year was the wildest for American muscle cars. I know most bloggers tend to vote for 1970 being the best year, but with a few exceptions, 1969 was a banner year for over the top Detroit muscle.
Should we start a topic about this? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/naughty.gif

I believe we're staying in a Hilton Hotel across the street from the Convention Center. I think we have it all covered, just don't want to miss anything. We're driving from NJ, leaving Thursday night or very early Friday, assuming it's a 12-13 hour drive with a trailer. The only thing I know about the show is from internet pictures, looking forward to attending in person, especially with a car.

Just follow the (particularly the move in/move out) directions TO THE LETTER and you should be fine. There are hundreds there that will be glad to help and offer suggestions, use them. Once you have your car inside the arena just get checked in and set up as soon as you can and leave it be and enjoy the rest of the weekend. Every morning and evening the participants get together for breakfast and happy hour at several of hotel lobbies and this is a great place to meet and greet. Lots of people coming from your end of the states.

Having done the trip twice from central NJ, I would advise you to allocate 18 to 24 hours for the trip. You do have to stop for fuel, to eat, to experience a blown headgasket, to have the truck towed 125 miles home from the middle of PA, to call a friend, borrow his truck, hook up trailer and start all over again.... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif
If I were you, I would leave Thursday morning. That way it is a leisurely trip. Bring extra trailer tires, too.
