Been lurking here on and off for a while now. Excellent site.
Need help from the good people of this site. My buddy and I found this odd Corvette when we opened an old trailer.
It has some Motion Badging, hone drive, etched PhaseIII in the windshield, Gas Cover and so on. Small scoop was added to the top of the original. I am positive its a clone, but were these rear flairs and back wing available through B/M ?
Take a look at the pics and let me know what you think.
First thing came to my mind was the movie Corvette Summer..lol.

The scoop was originally a Ford super duty truck hood scoop and was used on Pontiac super duties later I believe. Why are you positive its a clone?

Hey SuperNovaSS,I assume that Motion cars were made by Motion and I know the parts were ordered for this car back in the day from Motion and put on here. Please correct me if I am wrong. There are things that say Motion to me like the Hone Drive, then there are things that do not, I have never seen that flair, wing combo on any motion car pic.
Thats why I posted the pics here, if I am wrong and there was a chance, you guys would let me know.
And believe me, I would love to be wrong.
Tracker1, I am the same v8monza.. great to here from you.
Thanks...... Vince

If i was you, better contact joel rosen in florida to see if it is real? The motion emblems are 100% real. Do your homework and investigate. Roger

That car looks real to me that maybe someone added a little more custom parts to (scoop, wing, etc).

that's the same wing that is on the 81 Motion Phase III Corvette. who installed it should be determined. I sent a picture to Gary and asked if he remembers painting this.

I think I have seen that distinctive upholstery before in a late 70's Motion Corvette in an old 70's article but can't remember for sure.

Thanks for the help so far guys.
Car is tucked away off the beaten path.
Planning a trip to see it again this weekend.
Thanks again Guys....... Vince
Etched glass lettering ?
Motion used etched glass lettering on some of the 80's built cars. My 1987 Motion Monte Carlo has it and have seen it on other Motion built cars.
A similar wing was used a the Motion Super Shark III Corvette show car

1978 or '79 - before the wing/flares installation, those valve covers on the ground sure do have the right contour for motion pieces - small block car. As I understand it the car was put together from the Motion catalog, but now someone here in the province recently said the car may have spent time in New York, so who knows.
sorry for the unscanned pics - I plan on doing it this week.

Joel Rosen does know about this car and remembers sending the guy a "truckload of stuff" (his words). I spoke with Joel in 1999 when I was ordering some stuff and when he found out where I was from he started talking about his Newfoundland dogs and this '73 Vette "up there" that was all Motion stuff. I didn't know what car he was talking about at the time so I never pressed him for details. Only recently heard where it was.

Hey JoeC, I do not know what year the car was modified.
I was just looking at pics of the Motion CanAm Spyder and it appears to have the same interior ??? The door panels even match. Was this interior vailable through Motion? Or was it an aftermarket interior that was put in the CanAm Spyder? Take a look at the CanAm pics. Love the Chevy Monza Spyder on the bonnet,,,then again I am v8monza. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/wink.gif

I am not sure but I think you could have ordered the interior from Motion because they did advertise "complete cars and parts available"
here is the Motion sign used at car shows with the Spyder.
the Spyder was a very popular car and had many requests to attend shows

The Car in the Trailer is on page 28-30 of the CARS CORVETTE 1975 ANNUAL (at least I think it is), make your own decision, if it is it was a motion Turbo corvette,

now that I look at the pics from Tracker 1 on 09/30/2011 with hood open and the carb sitting so high, I gotta believe it's the same car. Apparently, somebody decided to go further with it and add the wing and the flares. i'd say keep the flares, goodbye to the wing and put a gail banks twin turbo in it. Neat Stuff.....

What year is this Corvette?
I found a magazine artile on Motion built Corvette that was built for Ernest Hardey from Newfoundland.
Looks like it could be the same car as it has the same scoop.
That small scoop was added to clear the air filter because Motion installed a turbo kit. The car in the magazine has similar stripes and rear window slats but does not have the big rear flares or the tall rear spoiler but those may have been added later.
Pictures are in B&W
here is the article

Thanks Guys for all the infomation.
Just got back from seeing the owner yesterday evening.
Heres what he told me. The car was owned by a guy he believed the name was Hardy,(confirmed in ad), he was the son of a fish plant owner. Car was taken over a dozen years ago by the sheriff and sold at auction. Thats were the current owner got it. He has no paperwork for the car. Also he said that the car is not for sale right now.

It's great these cars are found as they are. Would not take much to get that car back to Motion specs. The turbo would probably be the hardest thing to find.
Joel ran that turbo on a couple sbc Vega's. Joel's own personal Vega station wagon had that set up on it.

Awesome car..quick question though, does anyone know how the turbo works with the Hooker sidepipes? I noticed in the magazine pics the car car has the sidemounts and the turbo, I've never seen that before, kinda cool.
Did you try GM Canada Historical Services to see if they have anything on your vin?
Get all the info together then contact Joel about the car
The one in the artical had an Air Research Turbo piped into a set of chrome Doug Show Tubes. Didn't have headers on it.
Also had a water injection system

Doug Thorley 4 into "dummy" "Show Tubes". These looked real when you viewed them from outside the car and they sounded good.I always liked the front half of these better than the Hookers. Much better design cosmetically.
