Following a nice weekend visiting my Pop in Boardman, Oh, I met up with a couple of NEO boys (Mike A. and Grady B) at Mikey's house. Got to see Mikey's gem of a black/black solid lifter, M22 '69 Camaro <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif . We then headed out to the the local Quaker Steak & Lube for a little show action.....

This car caught my attention. The owner was adamant that not only was this a Baldwin delivered car, but it was a phase III convert at Motion. Let me know what you think (pay attention to details - even my poor quality cell phone pix are revealing <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/naughty.gif )

I see the POP is coded for an L-78 auto engine, but the rear is coded BE for a COPO car. It is a mean looking ride though.

Good eye! Never seen an L78 come from the factory with a BE rear - Anyone ever hear of this?

BTW, the car currently has a 4 speed in it.

Thanks for calling me fellas <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/frown.gif ... I would have shot up and seen you guys. I was just 1/2 hour south of you in New Philadelphia that day. The Wife and I stopped by a huge car show at the Dover Armory.. That was pretty cool.. You guys could have come down there...

Sorry Rich, but I'll blame the local "fellas" for not calling you. They are the ones that know how far each of you all are away from each other!!! I did blast in and out pretty quickly. I still had a 3 hr haul to Dayton before nights end.

Midwest Division has a representative already Dan but it's such a large division with so many cars, we could sure use a second....you got my vote! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

Sam,
Isn't that car scheduled to attend MCACN this year? I swear I saw that somewhere in the past couple of days. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif Even the license plate is very, very familiar.

Don't know DC. I am concerned about the POP imprint. I would like to have explained how a BE stamp for the rear would wind up on an L78 optioned car. I am willing to learn!

Probably a legit RS SS 396 car, but certainly a recently made up Motion 427 replica car, with a highly suspect POP. Noticed it has a 140 mph speedo and 8K tach, neither being correct for this car. One of the captions on the FB pictures says something like "396 out 427 L-88 in". Another caption reads "orginal 396 engine" Also block casting picture is 272 which is a 396 block. Regardless of the pedigree it looks like a nice car and probably runs well with the L-88.

The block with casting 272 is the original 396/375hp L78. I still have the motor at our shop. The original engine that motion put in the car, I was told, threw a rod and destroyed the block. The gentleman that owned the car previously rebuilt the original 396 and installed it back in the car with a tri-power setup from a 67 corvette. The current owner wanted to switch it back the way it was and this is why we installed the L88 that is currently in the car. And yes, It runs extremely well!! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif Any questions, feel free to ask. I do not know the full history of the car but I did see several documents on this car being a phaseIII. Unfortunately, the current owner had the car at a restoration shop several years ago and the owner of the restoration shop got in deep with his buisness and lost everything. All the documentation was in the shop owners posession when they got shut down. The car owner never got all of his documentation back. I know this because this is unfortunately the old restoration shop I worked at.

Dont think that this is a Motion Phase lll.

Maybe a RS/SS.

The COPO stuff is not correct and the Trim Tag is fake.

Post a Picture of engine pad showing Vin and Suffix Code.

Not a Camaro guy, so is a D80 called out on an 02B trim tag not possible?

There is other things on that Trim Tag that show its not a "real born with Trim Tag".

I believe Webco is going by what the owner of the car is telling them. They simply did what the owner of the car wanted. Hey if the owner wants to dump a ton of money in a clone,so be it..

Wheather it is or is not a true phase III, We were still happy to be part of the build. It is an awesome car that is balls to the wall, looks and sounds great!! The owner of the car is extremely pleased and people love it at car shows. I was simply explaining what we know about the car and how it came about. If you like the car, awesome. If not, then that is your own choice. And thank you Jrinehart!

Carleen would you explain what all is wrong with the tag? I know that they changed to X code mid year but honestly figured they could have done a few earlier. The more knowledge the better. Thanks

The "D80" did not appear on trim tags until late May of 69. Also, the P-O-P is a fake. It's a good looking car, but not sure why the owner or previous owner would make obviously fake tags. Just call it what it is, a nice looking BM replica.

Spent a lot of money on the car, and it looks nice, but put inexpensive, $38.00 universal fit, late model, Lakewood traction bars on it from Summit.......period correct, heavy duty Traction Action ones are out there. There is a pair on ebay right now.

These clone cars, and some real ones sadly, need to tone it down on the Motion decals. Motion decals everywhere, wheels, rear end cover, engine compartment, glass etc.

Reminds me of a ice cream cone dipped in sprinkles and the sprinkles in this case are Motion decals....

Sometimes less is more...

The windshield inspection decal is a Bob Hoyt repo. #1920745 number on the decal. Those decals are made very nice and are accurate.

It's in MN now, so looks like it's not the same OH owner.
