Does anyone remember a 1970 Black with White interior W30 Coupe sold new out of Ontario Motor Sales Ltd. Oshawa,ON ?

If coupe means hardtop, about 1980 I bought a complete cracked block engine and stick parts from a black w/ white stripes drag-car here in Peterboro' (45 minutes from Oshawa) the guy claimed was a W30..
The parts I got weren't W30 parts and already off the car when I picked them up, he wouldn't consider selling it or even let me look at it...no idea what ever happened to that one?.

A few W30's and W31's Posts/Hardtops were around Peterboro' in those days, site member Keith w/ the Copo Chevelle may recall?.
One was a '69 W31 Post I bought in 1981, stripped and foolishly tossed..

If coupe means Post, I forget the color if I knew but in the early 90's I phoned a guy in a small town about 25 miles North of Oshawa who was advertising his '70 W30 Post car..
I had a '70 Post 442 then also a '69 442 Post so more than interested but someone had beat me to it!.
I still recall the small town where it was also a chance the old ad w/ phone # could still be found?.

If the car lives today and you're searching its early history, running the Vin through Ontario's MOT is only $20..
Not always a hit but happy to try it for you!.

Also if your dealer info came from GM Vintage, best always confirm the code w/ the dealer name yourself..
GM Vintage rocks also George and Frank great guys but sometimes mistakes happen comparing the dealer codes and old listings also the delivered to by GM and selling dealer not always the same too..

Lastly, I lived in Oshawa in 1970 and OMS was the biggest dealer in the Oshawa area then also is still in operation..

Good luck whatever's up!.

I should have said Holiday Coupe = Hardtop no post.

This particular car has dealer DOCs as well as GM of Canada docs.

It is Black with white stripes and a white interior. Just figured maybe someone would remember it cruising around.

Shipping Invoice shows dealer 137141.

Thanks for the info.

Even if no B-pillar it sounds like a very cool car!. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/naughty.gif
Do the dealer docs include a sales invoice and is there purchaser info?.

Again we can search the Ontario history if you'd like as running the Vin through the MOT here is only $20..
The reason it's not always a hit is around 1980 their system changed and purged vehicles non-active after that date..

Also the local speed shop guy here was into these cars then and may recall or know of the car?.
A bit of a kook but still around and I can dig up a # if you'd like?.

Original owner was Byron A. Burnett, he purchased the car on Feb 27th 1970.

The New Vehicle Warranty and Owners protection plan is written in two languages. I do not have an address.

Make some room in your PM box.

1970 W30 Intakes are cast aluminum and the words "Oldsmobile W-455" are cast on to the intake. For 1971, the casting was changed to read "Olds-W-455." Some late 1970 cars are said to have, "Olds W-455" cast on the intake.

This intake may not be correct for an early 1970?

My dream car when I was 18 years old was Mr. Millers black with red stripes and white interior Olds 442 w-30. I just had a regular 442 and his car was the hot car in town.

I like black but after attending SEMA and dusting off my black stripes a million times am glad mine is gold with black stripes. Looks great clean with no fine scratches but oh my gets dusty in seconds. I did not have to dust the gold nearly as much.

Stefano, you're killing me with this car. Please don't post any more pictures, how am I supposed to work today?

Stefano
11-07-2011, 04:10 PM
Shane you are correct on both accounts.

This car was repainted a long time ago,and the trim was not reinstalled. From what I have been informed thus far, it was sometime in the 1980s. It is a nice driver, but certainly not a maximum standards type of car, at least not at this point.

I purchased it as original miles, it is now showing approx. 37k.

A good portion of the interior appears original. It seems to have original spiral type shocks on the front (will check date codes soon). It also has original riveted ball joints as well as other parts which are typical wear items, but drives nice and tight.

Sam,

It was just one of those Midwest Fall days and I just couldn't resist trying to capture that in the pics too.

My first up close and personal experience with a W-Machine, was with my next door neighbor. I was in my early teens.

The Swanson boys had a passion for Muscle cars. I could always expect to see something cool in the drive way. Jimmy's then girlfriend, who later became his wife, had a 1970 W30 Ragtop in Sebring Yellow, with a Black vinyl top and interior.

I just thought that it was one of the classiest and coolest sounding stock muscle cars I had ever seen.

Jimmy moved to Alaska before I went off to College and I have never seen him since.

I often wonder what may have happened to that car?

Then, while in college the owner of the "Regulator" a tavern in Macomb, Illinois, I believe his name was Les, had a W-30 Hardtop in this same color combination. I can't remember if it was a '70 or '71 and I seem to remember it being a 4 speed.

It had a trailer hitch and he used it to pull his boat in and out of the water.

Anybody close to Macomb remember Les' car?

IMO, of the 70-72 A bodies the 442s had the most muscular appearance particularly with the bulging rear "haunches".

I met Jimmy in the mid 80's, he was living in Kenai Alaska, driving his yellow W-30 vert. regularly.
I had recently finished a frame off restoration on a Nugget Gold W-30 I bought out of Seattle, this car also had a W-27 carrier in it.
Jimmy moved out of state sometime in the early 90's.
I'll post some pics of my car when I get the negatives put on a disc.

Turns out that the intake is correct for this W30.

"Cars built after 3 Jan 70 should have the OLDS W-455 intake. We have never seen a December BUILT car have one. The earliest casting dates are in the mid December time frame. The Early OLDSMOBILE W-455 intakes are some of the hardest to locate. We have also seen date codes as early as 13 Aug 69 on the Oldsmobile intake. "

70 Really was the Pinnacle for Oldsmobile design, Everything came together and they produced one of the best looking automobiles with the 70 W30's, the wing, the hood, aluminum rear diff cover, even though the 71-72 were similar the 70 Tail lights looked much better.

You are so right Jim on the 1970 W-30. It had it all! Under the hood was one of the strongest GM motors ever designed. The body featured some of the most beautiful bodylines ever to come from GM. It was aesthetically handsome from ever perspective. Nothing more needs to be said! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/wink.gif

Just recently got off the phone with the Original owner : )

Owner #3 from Canada saw the W-30 on eBay and contacted us a while back. He bought the car from owner #2 with only 25,000 miles on the odometer in 1984 for $8,400.00. He had the foresight to contact the Original owner and ask for additional info and/or documentation.

The Original owner had a picture of the car when recently purchased as well as the Dealer Shipping Invoice......similar info to a Window Sticker.

The Original owner was a mechanic for the Car dealership and while he did have a Black White Stripe White Interior SS 396 Chevelle on order, the GM of the dealership wanted the First '70 W-30 they had received cruising the streets of Oshawa, so he cut the employee a deal in order to induce him to buy the car.

RST

And what color stripes on your '69 W-30?

Sending a big congratulations RST on acquiring Stefano’s 1970 442 W-30. I saw the car a couple years back at the Mecum Auction in St Charles. The car was awesome with such a great color combination and no question about its authenticity. I am very glad it will receive a full concours restoration. It truly deserves it. There was a large crowd around it when it was leaving. It sounded like a monster!

Your collection is phenomenal. I love your 1972 W-30 post coupe and 1969 W-30. Thanks for sharing the great photos! I am looking forward to seeing the black & white 1970 W-30 when it is completed. Thanks again! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

We are thinking about a 'Back in Black' display for MCACN this year.

Correction, it is not the "NicKey" show, but I know what you meant <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

The '69 Black W-30 Coupe is also a Canadian Docs car.

The Barrie Poole Cougar 'Border Bandit' was on display at MCACN this past show and is here in Chicago Land Collection.

Back in Black Collection, Oldsmobile Contingency.

A Black/Black White Stripe 1970 W-31 Holiday coupe has been added to the collection to be paired up with the 1970 Black W-30.

Both cars have all original numbers matching drivetrains, M21 4 speeds and 3.91 rear gears.

Both are also documented with original paperwork as well as the Original owners for both cars.

An Invitation has been extended to both original owners to be reunited with their cars at MCACN 2014.

Neither owner has seen their former car for decades!

Also, the cars were driven and street raced, with all stock Mechanical equipment as supplied by Dr. Olds.

NO, it is an awesome car just as it is, but I would imagine that someone with a lot of money might want the rarest & most perfect black W-30 convertible four-speed and completely concours restore it. The Kryta Brothers come to mind. Did you all also see the other original Matador red W-30 convertible four-speed that was on E-bay? That one I believe just recently sold.
