If anyone can tell me how to capture 35mm slides, I would have hundreds of pics of my parents vacations in the late 40's/early 50's. All with cool street views and cars.

Thank you. Just some of my other interests. When the weather is bad (or in Texas' case-too hot) activities move inside to easier to work on vehicles.

Try one of these:

This was the first thing that came up in my google search.

I'm thinking about getting one too, as I also have tons of slide pics from family vacations and other neat stuff.

Cool pics by the way. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

1967 - Charger - "The Head Hunter" 426 Hemi, stolen from another website, not sure where.
Claims it was at "Austin Raceway Park". I have lived here all my life and never heard of it.
But cool chopped drag car either way.

Apparently, unbeknownst to me, Austin had a race park/drag strip up until maybe 1970.
It is probably easiest to just share some of their info via link:

We've got an old drag strip here in PA that closed right around 1969- called Vargo. In the last 7-8 years they've begun an annual car show on the old abandon strip. I think the same happens up at the Pocono Drag Lodge.

Might be kinda cool to do one out there in Austin. I bet you get a surprising amountof old iron you haven't seen, but is still hanging around the area.

Sadly, only a small portion of it is left. I have been researching it since yesterday.
It appears there were a couple of deaths there, it closed down, and has since gradually been sold off to developers, as it is now in the city limits and surrounded by growth.
Back then it was way out of town. I really wish we could do as you suggested. It is sad to lose these places.

Here's some of those slides of my folks I spoke of earlier. I just snapped phone pics for now, until I go get a slide scanner.

Enjoy. You guys can probably date these better than me by the cars shown. All are late 40's to late 50's.

UPDATE- I went to this location and was able to walk in to what was left of this track. I stood about mid track and looked both directions. All that is left is about 100 yards of old pavement. The rest is surrounded by new homes and business parks. Very sad!

Also, if I remember correctly, one of the owners of Corvette Grand Sport #1 wrecked it at Austin Raceway Park. It sat in his yard for years until Mr. Shinkay bought it.

----Tim,,,Jerome only bought it (traded for it really) after Richard promised to paint it red. There were, I think 12 cars of his involved in the trade. Some of them very tasty! Tommy Turnas tracked the car down and bought it from the Texas guy with Richards money. Tom, a GM employee, also tracked down an original 377ci original Grand Sport engine, complete with "58" sidedraft Webers and manifold. Engine was a beast. You could just about stick your whole hand down one of those Weber barrels......Bill S

My folks had a house built on Towerview Court, just off of Manor & Airport in 58. They have many slides of this during and right after the build. It was out of town and the streets were gravel. We moved over off of Cameron Rd in 66 when I was 3 1/2.

That's cool. A friend of mine owned the REAL Bruce Larson Vega Pro Stocker in the late '70's and was racing it as a Bracket Car in the Indianapolis area. It even still had the Lenco in place.
