That car has sold on eBay no less than 5 times in the past year and for some reason everyone backs out on it.

The car had been for sale by a bank in the San Diego area for about 2 years. When they repossessed the car and tried to sell it they found out it was a clone. The first of this year they settled with the person that put them together with a large loan that he took out against that car using an appraisal that said it was a real COPO. The current seller bought the car from the bank and is trying to use the same appraisal that was used on the bank to sell the car. Nice looking car but allot of history for a made up car.

B.S. car all the way! Its been through a few auctions. I like how they put the trim tag body number insted of the vin#. This is because they have been told the vin# is way to early to be a real COPO.. Looks like there hoping to find a sucker

If that's the car that was at Russo Steele here in Phx last January I know who built it here in Phoenix about 6 yrs ago and sold it as a clone.

It's a nice clone, pretty correctly done, builder said it ran great. Believe it sold at RS originally around the 2006 timeframe right after it was built. We looked it over at the 2011 RS auction and he confirmed it was the one he built. Here's a link to when that car sold last Jan:

HO Copo Clone (http://www.russoandsteele.com/past-collector-car/1969-Chevrolet-Camaro-COPO/6521)

Again, I could be wrong, if anyone is serious about it the guy I know could tell you what to look for to confirm it is the car I think it is. PM me if you want to talk to him.

I bought the car you referenced at Russo & Steele in January. I don't believe the car in the ebay ad is the same car. Just another Hugger Orange clone. Ed

If you want the number of the guy who built it pm me. He's kind of interested in following it.

Dave:

The fellow who bought the car at the Quail in 2007 was told that it was a real COPO. He paid over $90K with commissions and taxes. They then ran it at several Russo events and it did not sell. We checked the VIN in January and it was built before Don's mule car. So, we knew it was a vey nicely built clone and paid $30K on the block for it while they were still calling it a COPO Camaro over the load speaker?

Needless to say, I think the fellow who sold the car in January was really disappointed. Ed

I also had a hugger orange COPO clone car. I purchased my car from a gentleman in southern California that had spend a massive amount of money having the car built. The quality of the car was top notch so I bought the car regardless of it being a clone. When I got the car here I only put about 5 miles on the car. Unfortunately I felt the car was too nice to drive and it is a pain in the ass to keep a car nice on the east coast. I brokered the car and we got $79k for the car last year. It was a beautiful car but I still think overpriced for a clone.

Here is the car as it was restored. The car was in multiple magazines, was an Auto Traders classic spotlight car and did have a stack of trophies that came with it.

Thank you all very much for the replies. Yes the auction was ended by the seller due to a deposit and agreed sale price. We will see how nice it is tomorrow. Price paid was clone money he must have just wanted to get out.

Even though it is a clone at $35k that is a whole lotta of car to have fun with.
Heck, does in it cost more to put that car together?
Enjoy it and tell people it is a clone and have fun.

Better yet, Day 2 the car and start having some real fun. Get away from the clone thing constantly hounding you everywhere you park it. Day 2 would soften the blow of it being a clone, IMO.

I'd say that's a great deal for that. No way you could build it for $35K.

He offered me the car for $40k and has a sound of desperation in his voice. I would say he probably let go for in the $30's. Regardless of what it is, at that price it is a deal.

Got the car in the shop yesterday. Massive clean up day. Checked the block casting, 512 4 bolt main . 840 heads , reproduction 375 horse carb, XT wheels, 1968 dated 12 bolt 4.11 posi. 1968 M21, 163 Intake .New interior with a big block tach, shifter is tight and works well. Radio delete, who needs one when this thing sounds so good. Changed the oil and filter , set the float levels , checked the initial and total timing. Now i know why you guys like these cars! Those polyglas tires never stop spinning as long as your foot is in it. Lots of acceleration and a fun time as long as the police are not around. Only bad thing is the heater core needs to be replaced, not looking forward to that. Thanks Mark and Kerry for the help!!

I was asked to provide a service which entailed two trips to the car, documenting my findings, photographing, test driving and storing the car at my home to await transport. I received nothing to date. Known the seller for quite some time through the 428 Cobra Jet Registry needless to say I am very disapointed in his actions.

no sir was told a payment was mailed about six weeks ago. I followed up 2 weeks ago and asked why he stated payment was mailed. He stated his mother was in the Hospital. Not my first rodeo and assume he is stiffing me. Jug Head. I would have no problem with a postponed payment and certainly would have empathy regarding an ill parent but he lied so it appears to be BS at this point almost 2 months.

The payment was sent USPS mail 1 week after your friendly reminder. All you had to do was call or mail me about it. Your airing it out here is not the way to go about it. I hope you feel better about it. A new check will be sent out Thursday AM at 9 . Jug Head was one of my favorite cartoon characters, Thanks. Kerry , the car is up for sale because my Mom has been put on a waiting list for a nursing home. Because of her problems she has to go into Memory Care. When she gets accepted i have to give them $ 108,000. All is not as some people think when they see things on E Bay. A couple of extra thousand dollars from the car might give me a couple of extra months before i have to sell her house.. That is next.

This is only a general statement and not directed at anyone specific.

As my mom would always tell me in my early adult life when it came to dealing with banks or others I owed money to, "Communication, communication, communication!". I live by that today. I recently had a situation here where I found someone a car and did all that was asked and never received payment. It was not until my threat of going on line and publically posting it (there was an associated thread going on) that I finally got a response. As it turned out it was all a simple misunderstanding and all was well but and if I had only had the communication it never would have led to that. I am a very trusting guy and almost everyone I deal with on this board that I do things for, I perform the service or ship the parts and then wait for payment. I have only been screwed one time and thanks to the board that person is no longer allowed here. Stay in touch with people and communicate when there are issues and things will normally work out for both parties.

427TJ
01-25-2012, 06:48 PM
Communication, but not on a public forum please. Take it private and work it out before the bad blood gets out of control.

SS427
01-25-2012, 07:01 PM
Not in this threads case but sometimes people are doing everyone a service by bringing it public and it can be done diplomatically. Number 1, it can bring resolve and number 2 if it doesn't, it will warn others who might have made the same mistake with that same person. I have saved myself several times due to what someone has posted. It is no different than publically posting issues regarding a car.

There are two sides to every discussion, and the truth is somewhere in between. I admit my fault of not following up on the payment for the time Kerry spent helping me . But this forum is not the place or manner to get what he thinks is revenge. I am sorry a lapse of my memory has turned into this . Sadly you only cared about the money and not the bigger issue of the problems that delayed your payment..Check sent with tracking this time.
