Got a favor to ask everyone here. I am looking for a 1972 Opel Rallye. It's for a good cause which I will explain shortly. I prefer to find a restored, or survivor with a repaint, yellow with the blacked out hood, black stripe down the side and a four speed. I don't want to get involved in doing a resto, not sure what the parts availablity is on these cars. Haven't figured out what the market price for a well done restored example is but I have a two year time frame to find one. Here's a link to a story that has some pics of what they look like:

Opel Manta Ralley (http://www.carlustblog.com/2008/04/car-lust--opel.html)

My brother Marvin is a high school math teacher who is going to retire in about 3 yrs. He is not a car guy, but Cathy his wife is really into the muscle cars. He and his wife were married in 1973 and left for their honeymoon in their recently purchased 1972 Opel Manta Rallye. Glad they didn't buy a Pinto, don't think I would want to go there.

Whenever they visit and are around my Camaros and Chevelles they always talk about their Opel. It was their favorite car over the years. They had to get rid of it when their second child arrived and they outgrew the car.

I thought it would be a neat thing to do to find a car like their original Manta. I want to get it soon enough to sort out any mechanical issues but don't want to store it a long time. My brother's mechanical skills are limited to changing the oil and putting air in the tires. I want to surprise them with the car to them at his retirement party. (approx 3 years out)

The examples I have found in my initial search are cars I don't want to tackle. Anyone on here know anything about these cars?

Anyway I am solicting anyone here who would like to keep their eyes out for one of these cars. I plan to document the quest and video the presentation.

That is awesome of you Dave. That would be a great gift.
I will certainly keep an eye out for one, but in the last few years of shopping around, I don't recall seeing one. Good luck.

My mom had a yellow Opel GT. She said it was a 71. I know of two people in my area that have Opels. Looks like a 240z kinda? One I see in a garage covered with boxes and a blanket. The older person that has it, I usually see in the summer when the garage door is open. It is yellow too. The other was a highschool friends dad. I havent seen her in years or the car.

The last one is in the Allentown area. I saw it this past April and it was forsale. It looked rather rough and I don't know if its still there. It' s yellow also.

Just thought I would share. I know they are out there.

I attend the Import/Kit Car Show in Carlisle every May. There is always a good showing from the Opel Club. I remember a fellow from the club telling me that a really clean, low mileage un-restored example tops out at about $7-8K and lesser examples fall appropriately below.

Might be worth tring to network with some people who are part of the club that attends there.

Thanks for the links, but I'm trying to find fully restored 1972 Manta Rallye. I personally like the GT's better but it won't be for me. I have a couple years to locate the right one, I will probably need the time doesn't look like a whole lot out there except projects that I don't want to tackle. thanks for looking.
