Can someone give me a crash course on these wheels?

Anyone have pics they can post up?

What sizes/back spacings were these available in, and are they hard to find today?

Are they aluminum or chrome steel?

I bet they are the chrome versions Jed. I had them on my camaro 15X4's.

I've only seen them in chrome steel. Here is a set on the front of one of my dad's cars. I think they were supposed to be a fairly light weight steel wheel.

You can also see the Snow tires used for the soft compound. Funny how I've heard him tell me that through the years then it shows up in the Grumpy Jenkins book nearly verbatim.

Here they are original to my 65 GTO Race car back in the day.
I have 2 sets of 14 inch wheels if anybody is interested.

Thanks for the replies so far <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

I've only seen them in chrome steel as well. Just wondering if they were ever available in 15X3-5 and 15X8 sizes. Thought they might look cool as an alternate set of wheels on my Chevelle.

Just missed a killer pair Donnie had with the skinnies Eric. I had them rechromed and there are pictures here on the Site somewhere what they looked like on my camaro. Hard to find Astro wheels in 15X4's.

Sam;

I saw that thread in the classifieds a couple of months ago and even posted in it inquiring about the availability of any 15X8-15X8.5 sizes but never got an answer.

I'd seen those wheels a while back but had forgotten about them, and that thread rekindled my curiosity.

Went over on the HAMB and looks like some were saying wheels were made by Superior. Can anyone confirm this? You probably already knew they did make them in wide sizes, now finding them could be a challenge.

Here are a set of NOS ones made and doesn't look like Superior.

All the one's I've seen seemt o need a re-chrome, so it is only one more step to cut them up to make whatever width you want.

Other ideas on how to get the look are on the thread.

Numerous companies made them. They were an inexpensive wheel for the entry level market.

I have a 1976 Superior catalog and they had a full line of them-they were called Superior Typhoon Superlug (unilug) & also "Chrome Steel Dish"(direct bolt pattern)-came in anything from 13x5.5 import to 15x10 to 6 & 8 lug RV. The 14x6, 14x8, 15 x7, 8 and 10's etc came is standard and reverse(deep dish) offsets.
They came in either chrome or paint.

The 15x8's 4 3/4 bolt pattern with cap were $19.80 wd/jobber price and 5 lug nuts were .69 cents LOL (1975 price sheet)

My local Harts dept store were selling them for $19.99 any size in the late 70's-approx 1977-1978. Not sure when they were discontinued.

I had them on my 57 Chevy. The guy I bought them from said they were Mickey Thompsens. I really liked them on the 57. I had it painted LeMans blue. All that in 1969.

Same here. That is how I remember these cars-when they were fixed up Malibu's, Sattelites, 318 Dusters,

I betcha that Malibu has been an SS for years and the current owner doesn't have a clue.
