I just got a check in the mail today for $41. from ebay and I tried to figure out why I got it. I had no disputes with any sellers or buyers, but I did remember the plaintiff's name from my browsing. I finally found this.

Keep watching your mail Don. I can only imagine how many sellers there were in a 4 year period that were overcharged for fees. This must be HUGE. I'm surprised it isn't on the news by now!

I got $188! Those were the days when Ebay treated their sellers with the same respect they treated their buyers. I was doing some business with them back then. Things have changed and I deal with them very little anymore.

I see another one of these "law suits" coming up in the future.

If you have a scheduled auction and edit the ad, they charge you again for the same ad. Sometimes they'll just charge you for a few pictures but it is only when you have a scheduled ad and you edit it. I've complained to ebay but they don't care.

Really, I thought they didn't charge you for an ad until it started? They tell you what it will cost but you don't actually get charged until the auction goes live. I could be wrong.

Because a significant number of lower-end pay-out recipients will not bother to deposit/cash the check or will simply forget about it and it won't get cashed. The odds are better that eBay will keep their money than if they had to direct-deposit into everyone's PP accounts. Part of the settlement agreement was probably an intent to set it up this way so that eBay could 1. look like they were acting in good faith by sending out payment and 2. in fact, do just the opposite by gambling that many recipients will not bother to/forget to deposit/cash their checks.

They must work for the government. Send out a $.52 check that cost $.44 to mail and who knows how many dollars just to write the check....... They should be able to pocket a lot of money with this way of thinking.... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif

The cost of mailing the checks is a tax deduction, a business write-off. EBay isn't that stupid, they know how to take advantage of not only the legal system but also the tax code, as does any corporation. The tax code was not written by common folks, it was written by businessmen and their lobbyists and that's why it's so thick and chock-full of mind-numbing loopholes and dodges. (Not Dodges, dodges!)

Ok, I just got my check. I was stunned to see a check for $0.27!!! Twenty seven cents!?!?! I know they do bulk mailing mail rates but, a stamp costs more! I'm gonna take a picture of it before I cash it.
