What would be the appropriate aluminum Day 2 intake for a '69 BB with oval ports?

Vintage Edelbrock Torker or way out there, a Tarantula.

Those are for square ports..but many say they can be used on round ports or it it the other way around..round port intakes can by used on square port heads.???

The rectangular port intake can be used on oval port heads. There are quite a few vintage aluminum intakes for oval port heads though.

I would guess you are refering to a single 4 barrel intake. Edelbrock, Offenbauser an Weiand made single four barrel intakes back then for round ports but many were designed for Quadajets but I can't remember for sure..I will have to check my catalogs and get back with you.

No one made a round port tunnel ram back in the day. Weiand was the first to do so and that version did not come out until 1977- 1978 ish.

They most certainly did make a Torker with oval ports: The "TM2O".

I even used one on a big block powered pickup truck way back when.

You could also use a C396 (dual plane) or a C66 (dual plane, dual four barrel) -- all for an oval port BB Chevy.

I used an oval-port Torker on my '67 Camaro back in the 80's. I loved the way the big Holley carb sat an angle. Great intake for power all the way up to around 6700 rpm where I shifted at.

C396 would be a great choice for the street.

Yep...same one that was on my Nova....Edelbrock Torker 2-0

About time we had a pic posted in the thread. Thanks Bruce!

An old TM20 in racing junk right now:

Would be cool to use a oval port tri power intake like was used on the 400hp Corvettes.
I like the power on the torker. The linkage can be a interesting exercise.

You guys are spot on. The Edelbrock TM2O (first design) and the 2-O are for oval port heads. The TM2R and 2-R are for rectangle port heads.

As Eric stated, the C396 is a great oval port intake for the street.

Wow! Great response - thanks all. I will pick one up in the near future. My Benjamin has decided that we should fire the engine with the single 4bbl instead of the TR setup. So, we will - hopefully in the Spring.

Checked out the racing junk ad - it was sold, but thanks for the responses and the pics. Now I know what to look for.

I'll take some pic's of the intake that is currently on the engine to see what vintage it is. I'm pretty sure it's an Edelbrock, but after reading up on the performance differences - I want to make sure I don't have the slow one on there! The previous owner of this engine had it in a Gibb/Harrell Nova and I think it was running low 13's - way to slow for this built engine, so I'm thinking the intake was the bottleneck.

well the tri-power would slow it up even more M. MANY reasons out there for the slow et and not just the intake. Cast iron intakes with Q-jets run in the 10's on sb's so I would look else where also. Have fun!

Lot's of guys used the 163 on oval port motors...it sounds strange, but I've heard it worked well. The 163's were plentiful back in the day and probably cheaper than buying an aftermarket unit. I think there are some threads on Team Chevelle somewhere about this application. Might be worth a look....kind of "factory day 2"

Using the square port intake on an oval port head created enough turbulence where they mated to help in atomization from what I was told back in the 80's. I have done it and not sure if it helped but it certainly did not hurt it any.

----Running an oval-port intake (albeit on a very modified motor) boosted velocity and picked up my mid and top end on Red Alert. That was due to the smaller diameter runners as I recall......Bill S

I've got a Torker 2-0 if anyone needs one.

Here is a Torker 2-0 it has the oval ports. The carb turned sideways is too cool!

I checked the intake that is on the engine now, it's an Edelbrock Performer RPM unit. That is a good manifold, but I don't think it is very vintage. I'm leaning towards this Torker 2-0, sure looks cool - wondering about the linkage though.....

You can fab something up pretty easy. That's what we did on mine...heated and bent a Chevrolet bracket. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

Would not be too bad to just use a 1970 cable linkage. Seems it would match the timeline of the intake.
