I just saw the new category of Musclebikes for the 2012 show.

Are you going to have a special Kickstand of Honor for us original owners who still have their bikes? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/naughty.gif

Absolutely, Steven, but only if you bring the hot chick that is in the picture with you!

This is going to be fun...already getting some great response to this one.

HOT CHICK? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/mad.gif

The first photo is from 1970 with me on the bike.

That second photo is from only half a decade ago. That is my son on my 1970 Raleigh Chopper and my daughter on a 1971 girl's Raleigh Chopper I restored. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif

The girl model choppers are very rare because whenever anyone finds one, they immediately rip them apart and use the parts to restore the boy model Choppers. (The girl bikes are usually in far better condition after 40 years than the boy bikes, so sadly, they usually become donors for parts.)

Here's some detail shots. You can see the difference between the boy and girl model bikes. The girls' bike didn't have the upper support bar and as a result relied on a unique handlebar-mounted shifter instead of the console-mounted stick shift.

I figured that, Steven! Just razzin' ya!

BTW; I have an N.O.S. blue 1971 Girls Chopper in my collection that I assembled for the very first time after I purchased it about 6 years ago. Guess I better bring that one to MCACN!

BTW; great pics!

Cool!

I also have the whole spread of Krates from 68-73 along with one of each year Stingray from 63 1/2 - 79...and some of these, and some of those....

Anyway, since I am sure I'll have plenty to do, I would prefer only showing one or two of my own!

Talk about hot bikes.......just imagine the feeling of three "Throbbing" Horsepower between your legs......LOL......this particular Whizzer has never had gasoline put in it.......was a display model that was hung from a ceiling of a store in Ohio......But...It's not a survivor as the sun faded paint called for a repaint from the previous owner..

For the kid in all of us...Here's a shot of my Krate collection. Hope it comes through, I'm no expert with the file manager.

'70 Cotton Picker
'71 Grey Ghost
'72 Orange Krate - Disc brake
'72 Pea Picker - Disc brake
'72 Apple Krate - Disc brake
'73 Lemon Peeler - Disc brake

No matter how bad of a day I've had, just going down the basement and checking out the bikes has never failed to put a big grin on my face!

Enjoy!

Here is a picture of me with my first stingray on my birthday in 1970. It is a 1965 Stingray deluxe. Now I have a deadline to get it restored. I have been putting it off for years.

Looks like this is going to be a hit, and a whole lot of fun.

Great pics, Pat and welcome to Yenko.net, Kevin.

Keep 'em coming and get them polished up for MCACN IV!

BTW, for those of you who may not recognize the name, Kburkett is the gentleman who has the big display in the middle room at MCACN every year, packed with vintage ads, magazines and other cool stuff.

Did you guys know that Dru, aka Psyco, is also a muscle bike collector? Well then, be sure to see what he is bringing to MCACN 2012! I am visualizing some wild wheelie action this year!

Bob,
Talked to a buddy of mine today and asked him about his bikes. I asked for his opinion on which one he thought would go with a bad ass 69 copo black with yellow interior car for a display. He said he had 4 original paint schwinns. 2 lemon pickers, a cotton picker and a pea picker. What do you want to see? Grey ghost?

Since the Krates were made from 1968-1973, I am hoping to have at least one example of each color and year without bringing in my own. We have several lined up already.

The variations are;

Orange Krate, Apple Krate, Lemon Peeler, Pea Picket, Cotton Picker and Grey Ghost.

Bikes were offered as the popular 5-speed shifter version or as a single speed coaster all years. A little footnote is that in '73 only, they offered the Orange Krate in Sunset Orange, which is slightly darker. Disc brakes were standard fare for the 5-speed versions in 72-73 only, making them the most desirable and the Grey Ghosts are considered the lowest production.

Contrary to popular belief, the factory did not produce a Grape Krate or Coal Krate back in the day, but plenty of variations of the newer reissues have been offered and many "clones" have been built over the years.

Bring 'em on!

10 years ago who would have ever thought to inviting old bikes to a car show. Today I think in my mind what this display will look like and it is just "totally cool". I have actually considered trying to locate bikes to compliment our show cars for future displays. If not for bikers like you Bob this likely would not have happened. Shame on VetteFest! Their loss!

Well...I've been called a lot of things, but never a "biker!".

Thanks Rick, and get to finding those bikes!
