My Favourite band of all time with the original 4.
I saw them in 1984 in there prime (Best concert ever)
Also in October 2007 when they came back to Toronto since 1984.
I will go again if they hit TO.

I also saw them twice with Sammy as lead and it was pretty good but not the same as Diamond Dave. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/youguysrock.gif

The record industry (or what's left of it) is banking on this reunion generating some sales. There's a HUGE push for VH now, from playing their music on the radio, to being mentioned in magazines, to having new "lists" of the greatest hard rock bands, with an emphasis on VH. The usual marketing czars are whipping up the interest.

Van Halen were so different when they came out, but I have to admit, as they progressed into the Diver Down era, they sounded dated, and were recycling some of their material. Eddie's move to keyboards, while shunned by many fans, was the best thing for the band. They had FAR more success with Sammy Hagar than with Roth. Their music became more complex, more dynamic, and on occasion, was much harder than the pre-1984 era.

With Roth, no #1 albums. With Hagar, 4 consecutive #1 albums.

Sammy was about the only person that could replace a lead singer of major rock band, a singer as dynamic as Roth, and actually improve the group. But as talented as Hagar is, he's nowhere near the front man Roth was.

Roth was the epitome of rock and roll front men, one of the all time greats, up there with Jagger, Plant, and Tyler. The down side of Roth (other than he was corny, and an embarrassment at times during interviews) was that Roth was a weak lyricist. Luckily, the band was SO talented, his lyrics were often overlooked.

The original Van Halen were a shot in the arm of rock and roll when they came out. They changed the direction of rock music, and influenced an entire generation.

1984. 28 years ago. 1984 - 28 = 1956. Elvis, Bill Haley, etc. Yeah, I guess an Elvis show in 1984, provided he had lived and had stayed healthy enough to perform at, say, his 1968 comeback level, would have been worth seeing. Besides, why should the elderly Rolling Stones have all the fun? Let's hope VH can keep the BS among them under control.

Let's give credit where credit is also due.

Sammy, Michael, Chad and Joe put together a KILLER little band.....CHICKENFOOT.

They too rock it hard!

One of the things I don't understand, and maybe it's because the marketing czars are trying to keep younger people from realizing this (most people can't remember what happended 3 months ago, let alone 3 years ago), is that VH already reformed and toured with Roth in 2007, so I'm not sure what the big deal is about a "reunion tour". <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif

And unless Michael Anthony is back playing bass (which is highly unlikely, based on their past relationship), it's really not a "reunion", just the same tour they did a few years ago.

The debut Van Halen album is one of the all-time greats in rock history. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

Just like in the 1990's when they said that Bob Dylan was getting back together. I'll believe it when I see it. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif

Is David Lee Roth growing his hair back?

It doesn't look like it. Click on that link at the top, and you'll see them on the Van Halen website. Dave is acting.....well....corny as usual.

You think of Van Halen as a rough and tumble, in your face, hard rock band. They always looked so cool on their album covers. It's always a little embarrassing (for us VH fans) when Roth acts like Robin Williams, trying desperately to get a laugh, in front of a bad crowd. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/no.gif

I think the first VH album is like other groundbreaking debut albums, like Boston, Guns N' Roses, or Nirvana, but Van Halen's debut never seems to get the credit it deserves.

Their early stuff is the best IMO... The later stuff...1984.... Van Hagar... is too poppy and commercialized IMO........

I flew to NC and caught their second show in 07 because I was so worried that something would happen with another break up. But luckily the made it through the tour and got to see them again when they hit my home town of Dallas. I will be on my pc the second the tickets go on sale :-)

The band making it through a complete tour would be a feat in itself, quite a history of imploding and killing each other. if they come to the Beach. I will probably go see them though, Rock On..

I loved VH when new but the 'Jump' type stuff turned me away..
When Sammy signed on it blew me away and I got go also do the meet and greet at the Toronto show 90/91?.
Whatever's up now the music will tell but Roth will always be more show than go and the VanHagar era still the best of both worlds!.

Should be interesting. I am a fan of the "original" VH with Roth, but HATE VanHagar, even though I loved Sammys stuff with Montrose. But then, Sammys solo stuff was even worse IMO, for whatever that's worth! lol

As a side note, Ian and I recently saw Guns N Roses, well sort of GNR, and we were both presently surprised to see and hear that Axl still has it and his band was absolutely awesome.

We'll see!
